Jeans to a Paris start-up interview for a VP role?

Is wearing jeans (paired with wedges / espadrilles), nice bag and white blouse / shirt / top acceptable?

Talent person / recruiter sent me an email with this bullet point: “Our office dress code is business casual. Please wear what feels most comfortable and confident”

I’m going to Paris in person and besides the obvious nerves about interviewing for a new job in general, I’m very conscious that I’m going to be in Paris with a lot of French people (my boss, thankfully, is not French) so feeling like I need to be on-point in what I wear for the couple of hours I’m there meeting my manager, the team I’ll manage and a couple of other very senior people.

Please keep in mind (a) it’s summer, (b) it’s projected to be 24 degrees and humid and (c) start-up.

My question is focused on dark (not black / grey) JEANS to this interview, obviously jazzed up with some height (I'm 5ft 2 inches), jewellery and a nice white blouse / top.

Thank you!!

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

You really are a pissy knickers. My contribution IS valuable. I'm trying to stop you from wearing the worst shoes ever inflicted on the world 😎

The gold colour simple jewellery, heeled loafers or try the heels. No to khaki blazer or floral shirt.

Can see the logic on the shirt but curious as to your view on the dark olive /khaki blazer?

I much prefer the red blazer to the khaki one for an interview

The trousers are ok but no to the floral blazer. You want plain blazers.

Thank you. I might keep the blazer for other days at work in summer. It's very Zara from a few years ago.

No jeans to an interview!

CaptainBeefheartspal · 04/06/2026 18:05

No, definitely not. How about Capri style trousers with a blouse tucked in and thin belt.

confused2025 · 04/06/2026 18:08

Tech or fashion - jeans will be ok

the floral blazer is wile looking. Sorry.

I understand why - it's a fine line! 😂 But looking at the photos, I can see why! It's very Zara from a few years ago when I worked with a waif that was Zara obsessed and had a few pieces at work that resembled this.

It doesn’t seem to fit you particularly well.

Also would say no to the floral blazer. I think you should keep your muted tones

I'm not ordering or shopping for anything else. These are the choices.

Wrong colour for smart interview I think.

Thank you! You're the third person to say the red blazer. I worry it's too much as much as I channel red for important meetings reguarly.

I think the red blazer and white shirt is in the lead. Appreciate your comment!

From what I can see the red jacket/blazer suits you.

Do any of the options work do you think? A few are on the red which I find surprising.

I like the olive blazer outfit. It looks classy and would suit the gold jewellery. I’d add a thin gold belt and the black wedges.

Executrixnotextraordinaire · 04/06/2026 18:17

Have you considered jeans OP 😉

the trousers seem to hit at the wrong length for the width and your current shoe choice, I would go slim cigarette pant cut at the ankle, black wedges you already have. White blouse, red blazer, black bag. Id also wear silver jewellery if your skin tone can take it. Doesn’t need to be expensive, simple pair of earrings with your hair well styled.

good luck.

Thank you! That was my thinking also, adding in the gold jewellery. I think the wedges would be a good fit as well. Not too bright and bold but has some colour. And, I feel most comfortable with that. Just need a belt!

I doubt it!

Apparently I need new jeans?!?! 😂

I know and 100% agree ... wide trousers is very questionable for my height and shape. I have some slim cigarette trousers cut at the ankle but I am so conscious of my arse that I only wear them with long tops vs. something tucked in and smarter which is why I discounted them. I'd have to wear them with some type of heel / height.

You're another on the red blazer (4th or 5th I think) so likely to go with that which is so surprising to me. I have silver earrings I can wear.
