Smart clothes for skinny young man

Any suggestions? Ds is required to wear the problematic “smart casual” for work, but he is very slight (weedy!) so nicer brands just fall off him. Plus he is tall so smaller-size trousers end up round his calves…

Next. May need to order online but they do 26 waist normal length trousers. Might even do 26L in some styles.

Same problem here. DS is 6'2" with a 33" inside leg and a 26" waist.

Trousers are the main problem. Hit the internet & look for samples, High&Mighty. Other tall & skinny brands.Try Arne. Next.

What sort of sizes?

ASOS needs lots of filtering, but quite often has slimmer waist sizes.

Slim fit shirts/teeshirts/polos.

Mine isn't even skinny, but trousers have been an issue since he started walking!! Mens stuff is infinitely easier than kids stuff.

I think ds is petite tall if there is such a thing! Narrow shoulders, small waist… he is not happy with his appearance 😢

I’d go Next too. DS is 6’6” and skinny(18 years old). He had to wear suits for sixth form and Next were good - good value and long but narrow . Good luck , it’s not easy!

Mine goes to the gym a lot, makes a lot of protein shakes, but is still long and skinny 😊

Next for mine too, short (5'5") and very slim, but annoyingly they only go down to 30" waist in store (he prefers just going to the shops, trying on and buying not faffing around with mail order).

MaturingCheeseball · 28/05/2026 10:35

@ventress - ds has done the same; the gym trips made him skinnier 😭

I just sent ds some Next links but they received the thumbs down for some reason. He moaned to me for half an hour about trousers and then when I send some ideas I just get a “ewwww” response. Oh for when he was a small boy (or even a big boy) and would wear anything…

TKMaxx. Lots of choice, at a wide variety of prices. And the size 28/30” waist trousers are very often red, or even yellow (most reduced) label. You might well pick up good brand trousers for under a tenner.

For shirts, I recommend charity shops - always lots of expensive brands at under £5.

MaturingCheeseball · 28/05/2026 10:50

Oh yes - I’ll direct him to TK Maxx. It’s best to see clothes in the flesh.

Skinny legs are difficult as “slim fit” makes him look as if he’s wearing drainpipes or is stuck on two pipe cleaners. Not a physique he inherited from me - I have the legs of a peasant.

They aren’t the most attractive it’s true, but for sixth form they were good.

Haha tell me about it! We joke that DS eats and does the workouts but I put on the weight. Not sure how that happens 😊

I agree on tk maxx - very useful shop.

This is a common body type in Scotland and Ireland...look for Celtic brands? Often great dancers and longdistance runners.

MaturingCheeseball · 28/05/2026 16:01

@ThisBirdOnThatRoof I’ll tell ds to change career - Michael Flatley it is!
