Can I use box dye after a salon colour went wrong?

2 months ago I had what I thought was a very expensive hair colour done at a local salon. I had been growing out my grey and wanted to have some different tones of grey put in to add a bit of interest. We also agreed my base colour would stay grey so when roots appear they will blend in.
Even though we had discussed everything the hairdresser 'did her own thing' and I came out with a dark base and blonde highlights!

Now 2 months on I have half an inch of white grey on my dark base so need to get it re-done. Im reluctant to pay a fortune again and want to revert to my old way of buying a box and doing it at home.

But- is it ok to use a home dye on hair which has recently been coloured? My hair is now blonde with dark blonde streaks which looks wishy washy now and I want to use a light brown which is my old natural colour.
Can I use a box dye over that?

If it's too blonde, dying brown straight over will give it a green/khaki-ish tinge. In this instance you would need to "fill" with a warm tone first, before going straight in with a brown.

Which box dye did you use previously - are you looking to go back to the exact same shade?

I didnt use any particular brand when I used to do it myself. Photo added to show how bad the colour is now!
