Fake tan needed - can anybody please help??

I have a wedding in 2 weeks and a Christening the week after and my legs are a complete disgrace....

In the past I have tried Dove, Johnsons and Piz Buin fake tan/moisturising type things and always had the same result ie ridiculous streaks resembling zebra.

Is there anything out there that is fool proof? Otherwise, I'll have to wear tights . Please help!

(I just want a bit of colour - my legs don't match my arms ATM - sun/sunbeds not an option)

i use loreal sublime bronze tinted self tanning gel. its important that you get the tinted that way you see where it goes and is also instant dry so is likely to rub off on anything!

puty on one coat wait and if there are any streaks do another coat takes about half an hour to start developing and an hour to develop full colour.

Hoochie - yes am doing that...maybe not well enough though

Wats - have tried that one too! went a bit orange on me (quite pale)

Don't know why legs are such a problem - am just cack handed I think. My skin never really tans in the traditional way on my legs (seriously - I went to Oz for a month and nothing)

Micci - will try that one next I think.

Thanks all!

and mosturize tops of feet! dont forget to tan tops of feet too! otherwise you will have tannned legs and white feet!!

those tanning body lotions are good too! much less daunting than fake tan but takes a few goes to build up a good colour!

St Tropez works like a charm for me. But you must scrub your knees and ankles and tops of feet with sandpaper before you apply!

girlnextdoor · 22/06/2008 10:14

I have tried a few - Dove was a disaster- it came up streaky- but my fave is Clarins gel- make sure you moisturize well, leave for a fw minutes before using the self-tanner. The I use a cotton wool ball -damp- to go over knees, elbows and dry bits- takes off the excess tanner.

noddyholder · 22/06/2008 10:21

I like the clarins gel too looks really natural and healthy St tropez also good but doesn't last as long ime

thanks everyone - a few more options for me to try there! have not tried gel type ones before so they'll be next on the list.

this by Mac is a wash-off formulation so it's quite stress free and just adds a tint rather than full-on colour.

After observing so many bad fake tan jobs I am (trying) to embrace my blue lily-white skin. If Nicole Kidman can do it, so can I....

DonDons · 22/06/2008 14:13

lily white (or pale and interesting) is definately the way forward.

My problem at the moment is that my arms and face (due to pram pushing in the sunshine with factor 15 on) are a different colour to my legs!

The Sally Hansen airbrush stockings stuff is fab - like spray on foundation for your legs so covers up bruises/veins, and goes on really well. I use it for posh occasions where I want to get my legs out without tights.

My only really successful fake tan has been professionally applied St Tropez.

Just want to re-iterate that the Clarins gel is very good- BUT i make sure I blend, blend, blend- even if you think it is evenly applied. i also make sure my skin is well moisturised first. I apply a small amount, and then usually top up a day or two later to build up the colour.
