I'd be so glad of some style wisdom please as it's really not a strength I have!

I have this dress -

https://www.next.co.uk/style/su823888/h88417?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23099951489&gbraid=0AAAAADm_5UXuxjQZMtZb_dOvq-fDRJS0l&gclid=CjwKCAjwn4vQBhBsEiwAq3hhN4gwnKjO5oFN7QaQb9N8HiSVRQs61maB0InhRSBYSMQjuv9PyMlxKhoCc_EQAvD_BwE

It is so nice! Really suits me, a lovely shape. However, I've no idea what to wear on my feet. I can't do heels like the model has. I'd like to look "tidy" for work (office but not super super smart) and also something more casual for holiday.

Please help!

In terms of budget, I can do up to around £60 per pair

Thank you

If it was me I would be wearing DM chunky sandals. But then I wear them with all summer dresses!

Overtheatlantic · 15/05/2026 02:58

Either fisherman sandals or a pair of ballet flats

Endoadnowarrior · 15/05/2026 03:02

Literally anything you like would work with that dress!
For holidays id probably go with something like this
https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU924912/Y97916 or for a bit more dressy
https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU702154/K93191

And for work
https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU670618/W21323
Or

Love the dress!
Edited because one of the links didnt work!

EdithDickie · 15/05/2026 05:59

Oh thank you so much!

I love the idea of the DM sandals (they'd work for every occasion I'm thinking) and the caged tan ones.

I'm going to order some stuff

Thanks again!

I love these. But the tag at the back is really annoying! They're already marked on the buckle, so really over-branded. And I say that as a near-daily wearer in my 20s. Would it be sacrilegious to cut it off ...?!

They're lovely - & in gold ... I was momentarily excited, thinking they'd be a cheaper alternative to the Air & Grace ones I love - but not by enough! I think I might have to bite the bullet ...

OP, have a look at Whistles sale. I'm a big fan of their footwear for comfort, & live in the several pairs of their flatforms that I have over summer (when it arrives!).

https://www.whistles.com/sale/shoes/

They have several types of pumps:

Metallic flatforms:

And other sandals, including flatform/chunky padded sole type (THE most comfortable for walking/being on your feet in, city or countryside!). I am trying not to hit the Pay Now button on the last two, but I may succumb ...

@EleanorMc67 Whistles has great shoes. I quite like the cow print!

Me too! They never seem to get mentioned on here for footwear & bags, but they're great for those. And have stayed consistently so, unlike their clothing.

I used to buy their clothes a lot - years ago when they did loads of pure silk flouncy tea dresses etc, in the excellent Jane Shepherdson days. Then their fabrics turned to shit a while ago - but they seem to have had a bit of an improvement of late?

Where are the 2nd to last (black) ones from, they might be just what I need!

They're all from Whistles. Think it's these ones you like?

They came in cream too, but only one size left on JL.

Honestly, all their flatform sandals are ridiculously comfy!

Really? I wanted some of these and have been told by 2 separate people that they're the most uncomfortable things ever! Can i ask which ones you have?

Peony1985 · 16/05/2026 17:22

I'm reading jazz shoes are coming back. Thin soled, leather lace ups.
I remember having a lovely orange pair in the late 80's.
I might be tempted to buy some for work.

I have a pair exactly like this from Dune. They look great with black summer dresses and they're so comfortable.

Thanks for posting the dress OP. I love it and am going to order.

What about a pair of black Mary Jane flats. I think they would look beautiful. Maybe a pair of low chunky heels with a square toe?

I started wearing DM boots & shoes 40 years ago, so I'm aware of that. It's fine on boots because the size of the tag is visually proportional. It's not proportional on the sandals because much of the foot is bare - it overwhelms them. It could easily have been designed differently - smaller for a start.

Happyjoe · 17/05/2026 19:34

Tbh, absolutely anything will go with that black dress, as it's black! Lovely dress.

Loudhousefun · 17/05/2026 19:59

Tie up espadrilles lovely for this dress shape.. anything with a low wedge too, used to love chunky sandals but for some reason they just don’t look right on me anymore!

EdithDickie · 17/05/2026 22:14

Thank you all so much!!

I didn't know that I needed cow print flats but...here I am 😊

The sandals are great, I have a selection on the way (living miles from actual big shops means mail order is my saviour)

I'm intrigued by the jazz shoes. I'm not the daintiest person in the world and they seem quite light and elegant so not sure I could pull them off with a skirt but I'm thinking could be just the thing for trousers when it's too warm for my usual boots

Thanks again 😊

(Edited as I can't work my phone and somehow posted half a message only 🤦‍♀️)
