Please can people suggest what to wear with this dress?

Please can people suggest shoes and a jacket/shawl/something to keep me warm or if it's raining?
It's for DC graduation and also a wedding.
I'll need super comfy shoes and something for if it's chilly.
I'm normally a jeans and jumper person, so not sure where to start!
Thank you!

Bumping this for you OP. I'm not very good at suggesting things, as I usually just enjoy the suggestions of others!

I hope you get some good ideas soon.

Do you want the comfy shoes to have heels?

KathySeldon · 13/05/2026 21:39

I would rather wear flats, if people think they would be ok.

Pumps

I’d try something with a heel of around 1.5 inches. Just a bit of elevation. Flat pumps are a bit boring. Navy jacket that’s cropped is about the only only cover up option. A dress with a flat front might suit a wrap cardigan but the pleats stop this being sensible,

Ilovecheeseyah · 13/05/2026 22:11

Maybe some good quality navy leather wedges

Picassosdove · 14/05/2026 06:58

I would keep the ombré effect top to bottom by wearing a very pale blue jacket and navy heels at the base to complement the dress

HollyhockDays · 14/05/2026 07:02

Lovely dress! I would go for a light jacket not a shawl. My sister wore fancy trainers for one of her kids graduations.

You look lovely in the dress, @KathySeldon

i might swap the tie belt for a skinny one, in pewter or silver depending on the tone of the colour, and do shoes in the same shade

A kitten heel, maybe a sling back would work well, or a block heel like the M&S one a pp suggested

Id steer clear of ballet flats, too little girly with the dress

Jacket is tricky, but don’t do a shawl. I also think the collarless jackets look quite old fashioned

I love the dress - Phase Eight? I got the same dress but in the black/gold colours

FedUpOfThisGCSEmalarkey · 14/05/2026 11:06

You look lovely OP!

ThreeTescoBags · 14/05/2026 11:14

What a beautiful dress, it looks lovely on you!

I agree with some of the comments above re swapping out the belt and I think the idea of trying to maintain the ombre effect is a good one.

Ophir · 14/05/2026 12:09

It’s really hard to find a perfect jacket! I’ve had a look and without knowing the exact colour of the dress I think I’d go black or white, and cropped
