How can I lighten dark dyed hair to blend grey roots?

I have naturally grey hair ( 60 yo), but have coloured it for years (dark brown) I did have dark brown hair naturally. New grey root growth is visable after 2- 3 weeks so I am often using a root touch up colour. So roots are grey but ends are dark. My question is I really want to go to a light brown as it the grey will not be so visable- do I buy an all over dye? Will it give equal coverage? Or will it appear uneven ? Salon is not an option atm unfortunately. Advice appteciated.

Theres no really elegant way to this unfortunately. Even with expert salon help it woud take hours, multiple visits and cost loads. They would likely do whole head of highlights with mix of light and dark.
If you try to lighten your dark coloured hair with a peroxide you risk a lot of damage and possibly an odd colour result, pink or something like that. And you cant lighten without bleach. My suggestion if it needs to be done at home would be switch to a semi permanent and wait till all the permanent has grown out. Semi's fade out, not fully, but enough to lighten your overall colour. Cutting it as short as possible obviously makes this quicker. Stick to the cooler ranges as the warm its very hard to remove. Im not a hairdresser though, just someone who went through this process and I used salon and it took a few years.

Look for grey blending posts on Instagram, especially tajhairstudio. I don't live near there but I'm growing my roots out until mid August and then having grey blending done (as grey as it will go!)
