What do I wear to my daughters christening?

Hi lovely ladies,

I need some advice on what to wear to my daughters christening in a couple of weeks. I can't find the exact dress I have bought on the internet but it is very similar to this one (the white and black one):

www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/goingout/11/

I have never been to a christening and have no idea if this is suitable. Anyway, I want something to wear on top as I am not too happy with my arms. I have a bolero type thing in mind. I don't know how formal it should be - satin or lace seem too dressy but a cardi seems too casual.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I way off the mark with what I have chosen and where can I find a nice bolero top? I have looked on every website I can think of.

Thanks,
Helen

its a very nice dress but personlly i think it might be a bit ott,......i would favour a dress with straps or sleeves with shrug or bolero cardi - i think because its in a church the prom style might be a bit too much.

this is only my opinion and others will say its fab im sure.

at my sons christening i wore a beige trouser suit and shoes and a fitted black sleeveless top

It's a leeetle bit dressy... you want to be smart but not Wedding smart, iykwim? Unless of course everyone else will be dressing UP in which case go for it, it's gorgeous!

For DD's baptism I wore a ruffle-necked beige linen top with a faded rose type print and a rose-coloured knee-length skirt (both from Per Una, so you can imagine the kind of thing it was...)

New Look are doing lovely shrugs for a tenner, I got this onewith a cut-out effect so it's not too cardi-ish... there are some other nice things on that website too (sorry if you've already looked and discounted that sort of thing).

Hi ladies,

Thx for your responses. I have been thinking about it and definitely changed my mind about my dress. I love it though so am going to keep it for my work Christmas black tie do. I'd still prefer a dress as I am short and have trouble finding trousers.

I've seen this. Is it still too formal? Maybe with the white shrug from New look thx for that, hadnt seen that one)

(sorry for long link - dont know how to do that thing where you rename it as something else)

By the way I am 5ft 2, dark hair, size 12 - 14.

Thanks!
