Recommendations for affordable high impact running bras in a 40C

I need to get a decent high impact sports bra for running as the two I use at the moment are no good for longer runs. One doesn't have enough support - despite it being labelled as high impact - so my tits feel like they're bouncing all over the place and the other one is so comfortable with a front zip, but the zip cover is rubbing so if I do anything more than about 40 minutes, I'm left with red raw skin.

The issue I have is I'm a 40c, and it appears the band size for all the decent but not crazy expensive bras I can find stops at 38. I've tried on a Shock Absorber 38c band, but I couldn't even get it done up. Thought I'd a try a Sweaty Betty as they have offers at the moment but nope, they only go to 38 too.

Any suggestions that ideally are not more than about £40?

How about trying Brooks? They have high impact styles in 40C. The convertible 2.0 is £45 on their website, but you might be able to get a discount from a specialist running site or one of the big online sports brands.

I'm a shock absorber woman (not many choices for 34A), but Brooks clothing is generally good value in my experience and they are a running brand, so I'd be reasonably confident that if they say a design is suitable for high impact exercise, it actually is.

Hi OP, I'm a 40D and I run in a Syrokan sports bra.

Hecatee · 29/04/2026 15:22

Thank you both, I'll see if I can get my hands on some of each of the suggestions and try them out.

im going to be that annoying person and ask if you are sure you’re a 40 band? I’m a size 18 in a 34-36
a 40 band would usually be a size 22 ish

dementedpixie · 29/04/2026 15:33

Im a 20/22 and only a 36 back so I second working out if youre wearing the correct size bra
I wear panache ultimate underwired at a 36GG

Hecatee · 29/04/2026 18:02

I’m a size 14, sometimes even 12 on top. But all my bras are 40 and I’ve measured myself too. Like I said I tried a 38 and that didn’t fit.

Now I’m concerned I must look horribly out of proportion 😭

I love next own brand sports bras. Fitted me at a 38g and now fitting me at a 36e! They don’t move in one of those band boys!

EspanaPorfavor · 29/04/2026 18:04

You’re not a 40 if you can fit in a size 14, you need to get on the Bravissimo video chat fitting right now!

What do you measure under your bust? Thats your back size. The difference between the measurement over your bust and under it gives the cup size. 1 inch = A, 2 inch = B, etc

Exactly that, get a tape measure and measure your under bust
if you need help I can recommend a bra fitter online

I agree somewhat with those posting that you check your bra size, HOWEVER if they’re never tried a Shock Absorber bra they’re not fully informed. You need to increase band size several times in that brand

@Hecatee A 38C has a smaller cup volume than a 40C so no wonder you had problems with a shock absorber as the band runs small in the first place.

If you go down in the band you need to go up in the cup to maintain cup volume E.g. 40C = 38D = 36DD = 34E (same cup volume on different back sizes)

D cup here and I used M & S front zip high impact ones for running. No issues.

@ThisOneLife thats the one I have. Was great, until it wasn’t.
