Could I wear spiked platform heels with my dress?

Hi all I wanted some advice. I plan on wearing this dress below for prom and was wondering if I could pair them with spiked louboutins or is that a fashion faux pas?

Could I wear spiked platform heels with my dress?

Do you have the shoes already?
A school leavers prom? UK?

No the shoes aren’t with me right now. I’m in the US

They’d look very glamorous.
My feet are aching just looking at the photo.

curious79 · 29/04/2026 07:27

I don’t think the two go. The dress feels more ethereal and needs a darker shoe.

Dark color wise or more so in vibe?

I don't think they compliment the dress but I also think you would hardly see them so could get away with it but the defeats the point of wearing them!

They don't look comfortable, they kind of need to be the star of the outfit (shorter dress) to make it worth the pain!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 29/04/2026 07:50

Those shoes are disgusting. Are they on trend right now? Why not go for plain LouBous with red sole? (I have these). Or another designer brand? Even the Valentino Rockstud (I also have them in nude) would be better.

ParadiseIsNoBunker · 29/04/2026 07:50

Not sure about US fashions but that level of platform is pretty out of date in the UK (if you care about such things).

Exactly, what’s the point in hiding them with a long dress?

My brother (used to be a fashion photographer) had some of these shoes but different colour and closed toe, for a shoot a few years ago. They were huge, like a size 8/9.

PluckedFromThinAir · 29/04/2026 08:22

Could you dance in those? (I couldn’t)

Your dress is giving all the wow - go for a simple, classy shoe/sandal that you find comfortable to wear and can dance in. And have fun!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 29/04/2026 09:34

My DD has similar shoes around 15 years ago! Usually worn with a mini dress as the shoes are the main show. Are the shoes new or vintage? I agree with others, go lower heels and plainer shoes!

Shallotsaresmallonions · 29/04/2026 09:39

The shoes are quite dated and don't really go with the dress.

PrincessMonty · 29/04/2026 09:42

Your dress is beautiful. I agree, try darker coloured shoes that you can dance in, if possible

Toddlerteaplease · 29/04/2026 09:44

Could You actually stand up in them? Making everyone nervous that you will fall over is not a good look.

myhorriblehands · 29/04/2026 09:46

You need a darker colour shoe I think with that dress. Try asking on Reddit as they will have specific fashion subs

Gettingbysomehow · 30/04/2026 00:06

They dont go with the lovely dress.
How is it possible to stand in them. My feet hurt just looking!!!

Can I just ask how a High Schooler in the US came across a UK parenting site for style advice? My mind is boggled!

Great dress. Awful shoes. In the U.K. the girls might wear prom trainers if there is such a thing.

Wendywooooo · 30/04/2026 08:59

For me those shoes aren't in fashion right now,

Personally when buying items like Louboutins i'll only consider the "classic" styles, anything with spikes, big platforms etc will only have a shelf life, a classic court will never be in or out of fashion but never look bad either,

The Valentino RockStud suggestion is a good one, they're a classy shoe

I love my Rockstars and so do my friends who have them. Surprisingly comfy too. My classic high loubous though, they’re not that comfy imo/e. I almost wish I hadn’t bought them and wouldn’t buy again.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 02/05/2026 04:43

Ask others going to the prom what they're going to wear and judge accordingly.
If you can't do that ask your family/ caregiver.

Why did you post on a British parenting site for style advice by the way?

Your dress is ok, but the shoes are really dated and they don't match. Sorry to be blunt but surely you'd get better advice on an American teen forum, social media ect.

Have you ever heard of a search engine...

awfulapril · 02/05/2026 07:32

This is all bloody weird, not least the dress

Ireolu · 02/05/2026 07:49

That shoe style is very dated now.
