Best long-lasting eyeliners for tightlining that do not smudge

I'm looking for recommendations for an eyeliner for tightening. I bought a NYX one yesterday and was like a panda after an hour. I was using an estee lauder one which I did like but find it's not as long lasting as it was previously.

Why are you putting make-up in your eye?

stepmum86 · 28/04/2026 12:59

Pixie do a waterproof kohl one which is quite good at not smudging

Why not start your own thread if you want to find out why people do this?

I'm not putting it in my eye. I'm putting it in between my lashes.

Blinc eyeliner pen doesn't smudge but might rub out a bit after a long day. It's the only eyeliner that doesn't give me panda eyes. It's also very easy to remove with warm water, like a tubing mascara. Completely different to your typical waterproof eyeliner.

Will give it a try. I'm a big fan of tubing mascara so this might work for me.

Imagine giving an opinion that no one asked for…….

OP - the Victoria Beckham one is meant to be incredible. But a bit expensive

mcmuffin22 · 28/04/2026 17:21

Doesn't need to be a pencil? Bobbi Brown and Jones Road gel eyeliner pots are the best.

PinkNailPolish2026 · 28/04/2026 17:23

Laura Mercier Caviar tight line is good as is Victoria Beckham. I really love the Pat McGrath pema precision though, Mac did a 17 hour one as well.

Maybelline Gel Tattoo Liner - it's called tattoo for a reason! Gel is very resisiant to sweat, oil, heat, water, etc. and sets really rapidly... that said it also gives you the option of blending when wet, so for smokey eyes effects etc. Best of both worlds! That said you need a really good sharpener to keep it precise.

Plus it's ruddy cheap - £5-£6 in Sainsburys (that's where I get mine from, but other usual high street places also do it) and comes in some really lovely colours rather than the standard black and brown. Also if you try it and it's not for you, you've only wasted the cost of a Starbucks coffee. I only came across it last month when my usual liquid liner ran out and I am a complete convert. If they ever stop doing it I will travel to L'Oreal HQ and chain myself to the gates!

You know, if you were genuinely concerned about people’s eyes, then you might have approached giving the information about dry eyes in a slightly less patronising way. But with this comment, I’m not sure your concern was for people’s eyes.

What does your supposed medical advice have to do with the thread? It was about the best eyeliner. You just wandered over here & decided to offer an unsolicited opinion.

You’ll want something with 'polyethylene' so it sets and stays in place, plus 'dimethicone' for smooth glide. Long-wear eyeliners often include volatile solvents that evaporate quickly, helping the product set and resist smudging.

Hi OP. Try to look for a gel pencil or kohl with a waxy dense formula rather than anything soft/creamy, the denser the formula the better it resists the moisture environment of the waterline.

Waterproof formulas with acrylates copolymer in the INCI hold up best in this specific application.

In a way that didn’t result in a deleted post for me, evidently.

What's with all the snark on this thread? I swear it is getting worse here lately. It's fucking eyeliner, not the Strait of Hormuz.

Anyway, I tightline my eyes all the time. I use:

  1. Victoria Beckham eyeliners - I find these far too smudgy on the eyelid. But for some reason they work really well as tighteners on me. I co-ordinate with my upper eyeliner in colour and always do that first. If my eyes keep from watering for the first few minutes then they won't smudge.
  2. Hilden eyeliners - you can smudge these quickly if you want a big smoky eye up top but after a few minutes they do not budge all day. Very nice to apply. Spiced pecan is gorgeous.
  3. Maybelline Gel Tattoo - unexpectedly brilliant and cheap as chips. If I didn't already have the VB ones, I'd just buy these. I love the green one on my upper eyelid.
If anyone is looking for amazing colour pop eyeliners for non-tightlining, the Zoeva ones are absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of their Velvet Love eyeliners.
