Androgynous looking Swimwear for teen

Mydustymonstera · Yesterday 22:31

Hey shoppers
I’m trying to find some alternative swimwear to suggest to my teen daughter. she does not want to look in any way girlie or feminine. I just want her to feel comfortable at the beach! Her style is v androgynous. She’s sent a link to a swim top which I’m not keen on so trying to find some alternatives.

I’m thinking tankini / crop top in plain black, no cutaways or flounces or ‘shape enhancing’; not padded or wired, a blurb on the site that doesn’t talk about flattering one’s figure… bonus points if the models are boyish looking. I’m really struggling to find this even in sportswear and surf sites. The swim shorts we have sorted in plain black, it’s just the top.
it’s for a beach holiday where it will be hot.
she’s in adult sizes. Medium/ 10-12. Don’t think we’ll get away with age 13-15.
thanks for any help!

If you want her to feel comfortable, why not get her the one she likes?

Board shorts and a rash vest.

IwouldifIcouldreachit · Yesterday 22:37

As above, my DD wears board shorts and rash vest. Why do you have to like the look of it?

Look at some of the womens surf wear - swim shorts and rash vest

Mydustymonstera · Yesterday 22:40

Thank u
do people wear a bikini top under a rash vest or would the vest be comfortable on its own?

Teens know what they want why can't she choose her own clothes?

fashionqueen0123 · Yesterday 22:41

This is a bit different

Bikini under unless you want nips on show

Reachforthestars00 · Yesterday 22:42

My daughter would wear a yoga or sports bra underneath

Zippidydoodah · Yesterday 22:43

Agree with the others who are saying, let her wear what she wants.

what’s wrong with the top she sent you the link for?

WashableVelvet · Yesterday 22:44

The rash vests are swimsuit fabric so would be fine worn on their own if she’s comfortable like that. it wouldn’t be like damp T-shirt fabric chafing.

Indeed. And why is OP avoiding that question?

The Australian surf wear brands Rip Curl, Billabong, and Quiksilver would all have good options. A lot of girls here want practical swimwear they can actually swim and surf in as well as fashionable bikinis.

Bit expensive but exactly what you are looking for!

Several of those tops are compression tops so I wouldn't suggest those, they can damage her breasts.

We have been searching these options since DD, now 19, stopped wearing a rash vest to swim in!

Decathlon have some sports bra style swim tops, look in the aqua bike section (online) as well as thw

though I am pretty sure DD got a sports bra to go withe her board shorts for this summer!

Adidas have also been an option in previous years.. and I have been know to buy a set and 'bin' the bottoms because she wears board shorts..
