For anyone interested in what people are wearing -

Slimmer trousers and jeans everywhere, lots and lots of ankle length or above. Saw a lot fewer very long/wide trousers. Lots of white denim.

Woven ballerina flats with or without straps.

The ubiquitous Adidas much less ubiquitous.

Heels, heels and heels seem to be back in a big way.

Slender loafers with gathers, not many chunky ones.

Very few visible socks. Black leggings/workout wear abound, mostly with trainer socks.

Slender blazers, cropped jackets

Lots of menswear style button down shirts

Edited

Lots of pastels. Very pale blue, pink and green.

The weather has only been really nice a couple of days, so not full on spring wardrobes yet, I don't think.

Suede jackets.

People getting much more dressed up at night for things and in restaurants than the last few years.

In addition to heels, kitten heeled and mid-heeled slingbacks are everywhere.

Yes, late 90s fashion is definitely back in NY. But are they ahead or behind London? Did they ever do wide leg and barrel leg styles?

Marylou2 · 26/04/2026 19:36

Very interesting. Have you noticed which bags are popular please OP?

I don't know, actually, if they're ahead of behind. I did see a lot of barrels, wide legs and ground draggers when I was last there in December, but I'd say that in some ways there was more variety in styles even then. The shorter trousers, lots of ankles showing, is a newer thing. I feel like in London at the moment everyone is wearing some variation of the same looks.

Work colleagues it mostly seemed to be slouchy totes or bowling bag styles. I didn't really notice what people had in restaurants or at the social events.

Oh pleeeease let this be the start of leggings and trainer socks again - whilst I've enjoyed the comfort of a big, thick sport sock with leggings I just cannot see how it looks better/more flattering. Cuts the leg off at the wrong place visually!

I've been wearing trainer/ankle socks again (much to 18yr old niece's horror, who views it as the most millennial offence ever)
