50yo - how to NOT look (too) young

Ive recently lost quite a bit of weight and i am rediscovering the joy of fashion… except i feel i am dressing too young for my face!

For ex instead of skinny jeans i thought i’ll buy some balloon trousers from mint velvet - beautiful, super comfy and more on trend. Then ive paired this with some trainers and a top and in my mind it’s all on trend and ok but in the mirror i look like a mutton dressed as a lamb!
How do i uodate my wardrobe but still look my age (or 45-50 but not 30yo)?
thanks

I think your outfit sounds completely mainstream for your age. Mint Velvet is probably most closely aimed at our (I’m 48) demographic. It’s a current, well put together outfit.

More likely is that being able to choose and wear a wider range of cuts and more current styles is a bit new and you are second guessing yourself.

Honestly, experiment and enjoy!

I wear barrel jeans at 48. DD18 wouldn't be seen dead in them. She wears wide leg jeans with platform ankle boots. Which I wouldn't be seen dead in because 'mum boots' and to me screams 2004!

So the fashion roundabout keeps going 😊

I’m 50 and I think the problem in our heads is that fashion is all a bit 90s now so we are literally dressing like we did as students. It’s a bit odd.
But it’s also fine. Nobody thinks you’re trying to look 20. And in fact 20 year olds could probably list ten subtle ways your outfit is an “older persons” that we just don’t see 😂
