Calling all Korean beauty experts. I'd love your help to get started please. Not necessarily all 10 plus steps but I would love some help in how to get started. Brands you love, your holy grail and desert island staples you'd never want to be without. The context is:
Late 40's
A lot of not at all fine lines
Rosacea and sensitive/reactive skin
Enlarged pores
Dark circles under eyes

Any and all help very much appreciated🙏

I’ve been using KBeauty almost exclusively for about 15 years.
like western skincare there are different price brackets and some brands have produced European versions of their products which I tend to swerve.
as you have some skincare concerns I’d recommend checking ingredients on the incidecoder website to try and avoid any known irritants.
my skin is on the drier side and I’m post meNOPAUSE I order through stylevana but this normally takes about two weeks to deliver.
so spf is a given and the ranges out there are amazing. I use the beauty of Joseon.
some signature skincare elements include a “milky toner”which goes onto your skin first. KBeauty toners are not like western ones they tend to be used to deliver hydration for example. I use the Laneige ceramide one and I love it.
sheet masks to deliver hydration are extremely popular. There’s a company called Sontag I in the uk which has a one off or subscription servivce so you can try them.
theres a great serum by time revolution which has very similar ingredients to Estée Lauder’s night repair which is a great low cost alternative.
i have a few of the pared back moisturisers like Soonjung and Aesrura as I use tret regularly. My repeat buy is the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream which I’ve used for years.
overnight masks like heavy moisturisers or gels are another signature skincare item. I use Cosrx.
i find KBeauty fascinating. I used to have to order from eBay and wait weeks for deliver.
in the early days of western interest there were some great honest blogs like Snow White and the Asian Pear which gave honest reviews. Lab Muffin is another good source of info.

I’m mid 40s with papulopustular rosacea, fungal acne and some fine lines. I swear by CosRX - I use their good morning ph cleanser, their propolis synergy toner, the snail mucin 92 serum, Niacinamide 15, and the oil free ultra moisturiser (I also use Azeliac acid 20 by Skinoren). At night I use the same plus their hyaluronic acid serum and instead of the moisturiser I use their overnight nourishing rice mask as my moisturiser. My skin has never looked better…

Hi OP! For rosacea/reactive skin the K-B approach actually translates well. A simplified version worth starting with = a low-pH gentle cleanser, an essence with centella asiatica or fermented ingredients for barrier support/redness calming, a niacinamide serum for pores & dark circles, & a ceramide-rich moisturizer to finish. & K-SPF formulations tend to be comfortable enough to actually wear consistently.

Oh my goodness, you guys are amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to help a complete stranger. This is fascinating and overwhelming at the same time. I am so intrigued. Please keep the advice and recommendations coming, I am making a list and researching as I go. Thank you!

Also a massive fan. My favourite products
HaruHaru Rice toner and TirTir milky toner. Put several layers on and you won't get hydration like that from anything else.
Dr Althea barrier cream.
Medicube PDRN
Medicube zero pore pad
Anua serums, I have an entier collection that are used depending on what the skin needs.
Skin 1004 centella SPF.

Ok so having had a clear out of my own as well as my sister's cupboards I have the following products:

  • about:blank Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil
  • about:blank Anua Heartleaf 77 Toner
  • about:blank Celimax Dual Barrier Creamy Toner
  • about:blank COSRX Snail 96 Mucin
  • about:blank mixsoon Soybean Milk Serum

Any views on any of these? All thoughts are so very welcome. I've had a couple of tough years and I'm determined to start to look after myself again. But its alot to learn!

Centella asiatica and beta-glucan in serum (for rosacea and reactive skin).

Retinaldehyde is gentler than retinol + suits sensitive skin better for nightly use (for lines and aging).

I forgot to add that snail mucin is one of the biggest KBeauty ingredients. Also I’d missed the blog Fifty Shades of Snails which was another early source of info.
id definitely research what ingredients are helpful for your issues then start testing different brands too.
many KBeauty products use interesting ingredients So incidecoder is really helpful to uncover the research.
