Outdoorsy cotton jacket/top thing

I'm trying to hunt down a very particular type of outdoorsy top, which is proving really hard to track down through online shopping, presumably because it isn't one thing or another. It's not a hoody or a fleece or a coat! Basically, I want a light top/jacket, with a full-length zip, but ideally without a hood, which is 100% cotton or thereabouts - so not a fleece. It's to be worn over a t-shirt for summer walking and needs to come in larger sizes as I'm size 16-ish. If anyone has seen anything similar at a reasonable price I'd be very grateful!

This is 73% cotton and has a zip.

Ooh, that's great - and a reason to visit the new branch in Bristol - but I think I'd prefer something a bit more like a sweatshirt as it would be easier to stuff into a backpack.

The reason you'll be finding it hard is because cotton is a horrible fabric for activewear - it doesn't wick moisture, so it traps all the sweat next to your body, making you cold, damp and smelly. It also dries slowly if it gets rained on.

If you are keen to avoid man-made fibres, how about a merino top instead? Something like this:

That's really helpful - thank you!

The White Company have a navy linen one.

ETA their size L is a 16-18 I think.

These are fantastic for walking - really light, pack down to nothing, warm in winter, cool in summer.

After searching for ages for a light casual jacket that isn’t boxy or too short, I finally found and bought this: https://www.cottontraders.com/products/short-weatherproof-jacket/AD12541.html?dwvarAD12541color=Navy#q=Short%20jacket&start=1&list=search%20result&p=0
It arrived yesterday and it’s lovely. Waterproof (though that’s not what I was necessarily looking for) but doesn’t look it. You can’t see it in the photos but mine (Pebble colour) has an interesting herringbone texture/pattern. Inside pocket. Removable hood. Could look reasonably smart if you wanted it to. Don’t know yet how easily it would crease if stuffed into a backpack though.

Jersey bomber jackets are useful. Lots about. I gave a lovely grass green one from seasalt.

How about something like this?
