How much do you match your makeup to your outfit?

I recently bought this dress to wear this weekend and am thinking about the rest of my outfit. When I tried it on I was wearing my 'usual' makeup look, which tends to be a berry sort of coloured lip and cheek which suits my complexion (cool toned, pale skin, dark hair). I noticed the colour didn't go well with the flowers on the dress, which are purplish and reddish-orange.

When trying on makeup, warm orangey/peachy colours look terrible on me and so does a scarlet red. A purple-ish tone is ok, but not so far it would match the dress.

In the past I've always worn makeup that suits my face and never really thought about the full outfit, although thinking about it most of my clothes match my normal tones anyway.

What do you do, do you have staple makeup items that you wear regardless, or do you change depending on what you're wearing?

I do this but all my clothes and make-up are within my colour season (Autumn) so they tend to go pretty well anyway. I will match more closely sometimes though (nail colour too).

Never, when I wear make up it’s just to suit my skin tone.

shelbybears · 22/04/2026 21:22

Never. I just wear my make up as I like it, the outfit makes no difference.

I do but not all the time. Mostly my makeup is fairly neutral so goes with most things. But I do vary colours quite a bit so do consider whether the colours clash with what I’m wearing but don’t try to match it if you know what I mean.

I might change up my eyeshadow colour to coordinate but that’s about it

Never.

I try to

Yes a bit. More in the sense of the same depth of colour or same colour family rather than matching.

In your shoes I think I’d go purpley but only what suits you.

I am quite rubbish with makeup but I have a range of Victoria Beckham Kajal eyeliner pencils that I sort of match to my outfits.
