Hi all,
I'm considering wearing this dress for an evening event, mid May, at a very buzzy/trendy central London venue. Thoughts about how to style it in terms of shoes/bag/jewellery gratefully received! (Don't worry about budget or whether links are to items in stock - I would prefer to recycle from things I have already, so am more interested in the sort of colour/shape/etc combinations that you would go for.)
Many thanks!

I would style it exactly as it’s been styled in the photo except I wouldn’t wear a green bag. Some kind of quirky clutch or something from Fable?

Newmeagain · 15/04/2026 15:41

I would suggest a colourful bag to add some interest but I think a plain design to match the aesthetic of the dress.

I really don’t like the shoes on the model as they are so bare. I don’t thank they match the vibe of the dress.

StabiaGirl · 15/04/2026 15:43

That dress would suit bright and bold accessories with strong lines. What have you got that fits the bill?

TarteTatinRevient · 15/04/2026 15:45

Thank you @Overtheatlantic, very helpful (and gorgeous clutches!). Yes, I was also not wild about the green bag in particular. I did like the idea though of a single bold colour - maybe matching or complementary shades for bag and shoes - as the dress looks a bit more busy/pattern-y IRL than you might think from the weblink. Hmmm. Will ponder further.

Hi @Newmeagain @StabiaGirl yes I think bold and pretty plain was my initial take too. I have a bright coral clutch with yellow trim and a bright cobalt one with red trim, both Elvis & Kresse. Maybe one of those and bright pumps?

Those bags sound good. Depending on the event (ie how formal) you could even go with heeled ankle boots instead of pumps if you have some glam ones.

TarteTatinRevient · 15/04/2026 16:05

At barely 5'5" I would love to find a pair of glam ankle boots that did anything other than shorten my legs but sadly so far, elusive...
Ooh! Just seen this and this on the W&B website and they are calling to me. (Because clearly, what I need is more brightly coloured smallish bags 😂.) Hmmm, would you attempt to colour match the pumps, go a different bright shade, go black patent, go metallic?

Let me be the voice of reason and say that you do not need another bag. Either of the E & K clutches would look fabulous. And pumps in either another bright bold colour or plain black suede-ish, not patent.

StabiaGirl · 15/04/2026 16:25

Although that yellow wolf and badger clutch is delicious.

EverythingGolden · 15/04/2026 16:33

I think as pp says this dress needs strong, simple lines especially if it is busier in real life than in the pic. Those W&B bags are lovely but to me possibly a bit squishy and velvety for this dress which I see more with a leather envelope clutch in a either a bold colour or monochromatic and then I think you’d be fine with black heels.

TarteTatinRevient · 15/04/2026 16:43

One of the E&Ks is basically this except coral instead of bubblegum pink. The other is this bag type in this colourway. Yes I see what you mean @EverythingGolden about the squishy factor. (And of course the @StabiaGirl voice of reason about exactly how many bags are needed.)

The shoes are awful. I'd wear patent flats in red, or green, or pink or even orange or yellow.

TarteTatinRevient · 15/04/2026 17:58

I love a patent or plain ballet flat @PhaedraTwo and wear them regularly but unfortunately for an evening do and a dress of this sort of midi length, they don't work that well on me. The whole silhouette is more flattering with a kitten/mid heel. Fab ideas re colours!

Kitten heel would be fine too.

PinsAndThrums · 15/04/2026 23:34

Going to go against the grain a bit and say I'd go for a black bag and black shoes and rely on a chunky bracelet (the sleeves look a good length for that) or some statement earrings to add some pizzazz. Bright bag or bright shoes is a mite too obvious in my book - and I don't think the dress needs them. Have the courage of your convictions and keep it very, very simple.

Snippit · 16/04/2026 00:45

A bright pink bag and shoes would look great, or gold. Go for something bright and colourful 🤗

TarteTatinRevient · 16/04/2026 08:05

Thank you @PinsAndThrums and @Snippit I can see that both of those would also work.

Thank you everyone, you've all been super helpful, lots of food for thought!
