Wide leg jeans for a short person

Me - middle aged, size 14, 5 foot 1.

Wants a pair of wide leg jeans that would suit me.

Can anyone a similar size point me in the right direction. I don’t want stiff or thick denim. Would even consider that chambray type fabric which would probably be more drapey. My inside leg is 27 inches but want a shorter pair to show ankle.

Finding jeans for my leg length is a chore so a head start would be good. Thanks.

River island relaxed jeans are lovely and soft. Mine sre super comfy, i went for petite and they hover just above the ankle, I'm 5ft 3, short legs, long body, so probably not top dissimilar to you on the leg length

M&S are now selling "extra short" leg which might be useful. Not sure about the range, though. Saw this on a pair of jeans a few weeks ago when out and about.

Zara culottes in denim. I’m 5 foot 2 and they are just on the ankle, so maybe a little longer than you want. So comfortable though.

Short women aren't allowed to get any plumper than a size 16 at River Island.

The OP said they are a 14, i don't usually shop there, but was on the search for comfy wide legged jeans and must have ordered 10 pairs in the next sale and fhe RI ones were one of them, the rest went back, personally hate jeans shopping

Junior H and M wide legs jeans fit me perfectly and I’m 5 foot 2. They are really comfy.

I got both my palazzo and wide leg jeans from M&S. Be aware though their sizing has changed and you might be better off ordering the extra short from the web as I have only found them in store once.

OP, did you find anything suitable? Only just came across your post but I'm a size 14 and 5ft 1 too & bought these from M&S. They are ankle glazers but if you get them in a short, they hit at exactly the right point.

Halara jeans are amazing! They’re a bit stretchy and come in petite lengths. Some of them are pull on elasticated waist which I thought was old lady ish but omg they’re so comfy. I love them.

minipie · 21/06/2026 22:02

I bought these recently which might work. I’m 5’3 and they hit my ankles but like a pp my shortness is all in the legs! The denim is nicely lightweight.

OhThePotential · 21/06/2026 22:46

Also Middle aged, size 14, 5’1”…..

I live in three pairs of toast Annie Jeans. Get the cropped ones, not the full length. If you buy your size you will have to move the buttons over to get them to fit properly, (Annies are known for this) - I avoid the problem by just sizing up to a 16 and they’re fine. I hate sewing buttons.

Im 5 feet 1 on a tall day. I will look out for these. They sound fab. I did buy wide leg trousers from m & s they should have been ankle grazers but fit me perfectly. They were soft and drapy but not jeans

Glad I could (hopefully) help. They come in a few shades/colours, I've got 3 pairs! If they're too long, you could always go for the short.

Ooohh the trousers sound good too. Please could you link them? Think I might have to get a pair 😊

minipie · 22/06/2026 10:47

Oh the H&M ones I linked to are basically a dupe of these but more ankle length!

ilovemykindle · 22/06/2026 11:08

Harla. I'm also 5ft 1. Size 16/18. Perfect fit and length.
Just tried the linen trousers and they are lovely.

Greenandyellowday · 22/06/2026 20:54

Okay these are not wide-leg, but bootcut, sorry...however I hope you'll give them a look if it's jeans you're after not loose trousers. My friend who is size 18, apple, maybe 5' 1", or 5' 2" not more, bought a couple of pairs and they look amazing on her. She bought short length. They are M&S Eva. Suit her better than wide-leg. But they are definitely denim jeans not chambray, and not suitable for this weather x
