Collagen - what can I put it in?

Hi all. I’ve just got some and am putting it into water but it tastes awful. I don’t drinks hot drinks so that’s out. I’ve tried porridge but it went clumpy 🤮 and Greek yogurt went watery. Any other ideas. I’m using nutrition geeks at the moment but could change next time I need a pack if there’s a brand that is ok in water / yog etc. thanks if you can help.

I have Elavate and it’s lovely in Greek yoghurt and fine in milk or coffee as long as you whisk it (goes clumpy if you stir it).

MeganM3 · 10/04/2026 19:19

Personally I did it in a shot glass mixed in almost- pure black current cordial. Very little dilution. And then I would have a glass of something with flavour (apple juice) ready for after as the taste is absolutely rank.
I stopped taking it in the end as the smell / taste was too much I’d be retching over the kitchen sink.
It did wonders for my skin, I wish it could be injected.

Magicshoppingtrolley · 10/04/2026 19:21

I have nutrition geeks and pop it in a shot of hot vimto.

I cant tell you what strategies I have tried with various collagens and protein powders

I dont drink milky shakey type drinks to have to be creative

I use Alpha01 collagen powder and was in the habit of putting it in coffee as coffee is so strong that it counted out the flavour (its called flavourless but of course they're not), I dont know if its an option for you to have cold coffee?

I do put it in porridge. I make up porridge using 1 pint of full fat milk and 100g of porridge pinhead steel cut oatmeal

I heat the milk up until its too hot to dip a finger in, then add scoops of powder, I use 5 scoops to 1 pint, it needs stirring a bit, only then do I add in my porridge oats (which I toast in a pan first to make them biscuity)

I divide the porridge into portions but it depends how much you like for one portion.

Yesterday I cooked up some red lentil dhal and used 300ml of water mixed with 5 scoops of the collagen, it took a while but it did dissolve and went clear. I poured the water into the lentils and cooked as normal, the strong spices and some mango chutney disguised the flavour so this is quite successful

I’ve got Ancient & Brave and I don’t think I can taste it. I make porridge, stir in peanut butter then the collagen, and top with Greek yoghurt, seeds and some fruit or jam. Or I make coffee with hot milk and stir it in.

stripycup · 10/04/2026 22:36

Hot blackcurrant squash

goingtotown · 10/04/2026 22:49

Nutrition Geeks GlowUp no taste, dissolves completely.

AltitudeCheck · 10/04/2026 22:54

It dissolves better in a warm liquid, stir it into some hot water first. It only needs to be a small amount of water if its warm enough and once it's dissolved the solution turns clear, add that to your porridge/ soup/ smoothie etc

ODFOx · 10/04/2026 22:58

I like a teaspoon of marigold powder in hot water mid morning. It’s savoury and delicious, and collagen powder mixes in well.

JustBlossom · 10/04/2026 22:58

I blend mine into my morning smoothie, absolutely hate it in water and don’t drink coffee. I don’t notice it in my smoothie at all. Has to be blended though - it goes all lumpy if I just mix it in.

BastardtheCat · 10/04/2026 23:07

What about cold
coffee OP? Make initially with hot water to dissolve the coffee and collagen, then add cold milk?

Incidentally, I also use nutrigeeks and am
baffoed by their dosage. It says 2 x tbsp a day which (they state) equates to 14g. One tbsp is 14g though, not two. What do you take?

Acropolis49 · 11/04/2026 07:43

Taking vitamin c with it enhances the benefits, so I put in an orange flavoured effervescent vit c and zinc tablet to make it palatable. I also use nutrition geeks bovine.

PragmaticIsh · 11/04/2026 07:47

Suggestions of blackcurrant squash or lentil dahl are grrat! Can't stand milky drinks, yoghurt, porridge etc so this is useful.

SpiralSister · 11/04/2026 07:52

I hear you. Nutrition geeks here (was also baffled by dosage @BastardtheCat). I now do 1.5 tablespoons in a pint glass, good glug of lime cordial, fill up with cold water, stir like a maniac. Leave it 5 mins, stir again, it will be clear. Neck it. No taste. If you don’t put cordial in (or squash, I guess) it both tastes and smells unpleasant.

Too much volume for coffee or tea, made yogurt weird, etc. The pint method works for me and keeps my water up too!

Oh wow!! This is a game changer recommendation for me 😁

I have the Bulk unflavoured powder but have really struggled to take it. Only thing that masked the taste was putting it in hot chocolate. But all the extra sugar from that…

Bulk do a hot chocolate version, which looks good nutritionally, but with it getting warmer it is hard to drink a hot chocolate drink every day.

I just tried it with my vit c effervescent drink and can only taste it a tiny bit, but not enough to cause an issue 🤩

BastardtheCat · 11/04/2026 09:11

@SpiralSister thank you. It’s baffling - I may ask them and will update here if they reply. I’ve also read that Vit C helps
absorption.

That said, another brand (advertised by Martine McCutchion (spelling?)) claims that a serving less than 20g is sub therapeutic though and won’t make any difference.

I’m spending money on this and really must research more - we are paying good money out and for what?! Do anyone of us really know the benefits or are we falling for the advertising? Sorry - grumpy today after a poor night’s sleep 😅.

I agree, I am not sold on the benefits yet. I will try it for a bit longer but am not willing to continue shelling out if I can't see real benefits.

Acropolis49 · 11/04/2026 09:44

The marketing is insane, once you type that word collagen into your phone once you are bombarded.

Happywalnut · 11/04/2026 19:54

i just weigh out 14g and use that. Tied it in orange juice and it’s better so will stick with that for now.

I wonder about the benefits too. Every celeb is advertising a brand so I don’t really believe all the adverts but a few friends have said it’s good for them and people on here have noticed a difference so be interesting to see if I do too

I use the liquid gel sachets from absolute collagen, they dissolve in water easily and taste nice, i usually add an effervescent vitamin tablet as well for a nice drink. I couldn't stomach the smell of the powder although it did dissolve nicely in coffee and gave it a creamy taste.

Recommend that everyone listens to the bbc sounds episode of ‘sliced bread’ recently updates re the efficacy of collagen supplements before spending ££
