Tankini for teen

NastyNits · 06/04/2026 14:50

Hoping for some help from mumsnetters with teen girls - I am looking for a Tankini for my teen but really struggling to find any suitable. She prefers wearing a one piece and wouldn’t wear a bikini but last year loved a Tankini I found as it had the coverage of a one piece but was much easier for going to the loo.

Any ideas of places to try? I’ve had no luck with Next/M&S/Zara etc. She is a young teen - would like to avoid anything too grown-up or also anything too babyish so ideally plain/striped (though open to a pattern if not too babyish). I’d rather avoid SHEIN or similar sites though. Any ideas very welcome 🙏.

Loads at John Lewis. Striped, plain etc

My dd got the ones from sports direct. They just look like a swimming costume but easier to go to the toilet in!

PilesofGuilt · 06/04/2026 19:22

Got DD something similar from Decathlon last year.

NastyNits · 06/04/2026 21:39

Thanks for the suggestions - most on John Lewis are for women not girls and for the couple I can see the tops don’t look full length. Can’t see anything on Sports Direct or Decathlon either (except slightly longer bikini tops which won’t be enough coverage for her). Maybe too early in the year?

How about next? They have tonnes of swimwear and have small
adult sizes like 4-6

I've just ordered one off Amazon for my daughter. Reviews look decent but will wait and see what the quality is like when it arrives tomorrow.

Would you mind posting a link if it turns out to be decent? Thanks!

Boden?

This style comes in a few patterns with mix and match options of knickers and shorts:

Or this style has more coverage (my dd has gone for this one): https://www.boden.com/products/girls-ruched-tankini-set-rainbow-ombre-flowerbed-g5845mlt

I saw the crossed back one but the length looked too short as she wants it to look like a one piece. The ruched one looks longer and I hadn’t spotted that, so it may well be a good option - thanks!

I like the Speedo hyperboom tankini, the top is long enough to cover everything. Its for swimmers rather than fashion so quite plain, there are a couple of colours.
Its on the speedo website.

ReadingCrimeFiction · 07/04/2026 11:47

How old is she? If shes a teenager, a very small sized adult one may well be fine? I wouldn't dismiss the adult options out of hand.

NastyNits · 07/04/2026 12:41

She’s only just a teen and is slightly short for her age so I don’t think even v small women’s sizes would work. For example, if I was given a choice between something that only comes in age 11-12 or age 13-14 (so no option of age 12-13) then I’d have to go for the age 11-12 as the 13-14 would be too big.

I like the look of the hyperboom but on the Speedo website can only see bikinis in the kids section, the Tankinis are in the adults section.

Also not quite sure why my phone keeps autocorrecting Tankini to have a capital t!

Hope the link works. The quality is exactly the same as you'd get from somewhere like Tesco or H&M (and honestly probably much the same as M&S or Boden, which I've never found much different) but the sizing is odd. My daughter pretty much always wears 8-9 in clothes and whilst slim and a little bit short, very much fits standard sizes. The 8-9 is absolutely massive though, I'd say at least 2 sizes too big.

queenofthebongo · 07/04/2026 19:00

I would always go to animal or Roxy. The surf brands. M and m direct usually do sale items.

pkt3chgirl · 07/04/2026 19:01

Boden. I wanted one for mine that were shorts and had a long top but as you say easy for bathroom.
