Products for hair thinning

I'm early 40s and my hair is thinning and breaking.
I already take iron, vitamin D, vit B complex (with folic acid), and biotin supplements. I've recently starting taking collagen too.
I'm looking for any products I can put on my hair to help too. My Instagram feed is full of them, but I don't know which ones really work!

Minoxidil is a pretty gold standard product. Comes in a tablet or foam. I bought from Hair & Me and noticed a good difference.

get a blood test to check your vitamin levels too. Mine was thinning when I was very low in folic acid - I see you’re already taking this but worth checking

Also get your iron levels checked and if under 70 take prescription strength iron. Could have saved myself 16 years of time and money!

That and pumpkin seed oil supplements
are what finally helped me.

Philip Kingsley density range, Its brilliant, use that before you go for minoxidil.

also check what products you’re using, I was using Olaplex and my hair started snapping, so I now use Philip Kingsley and it’s stopped it in its tracks.

Please don’t use topical minoxidil if you have pets. Particularly if they sleep anywhere you lie down. It is highly toxic and can kill them, even if it’s a small amount.

Thank you for this warning. I didn't know it's toxic and my dog is currently laying next to me on my pillow.

I take supplements based on blood tests I had two years ago. I should probably have them done again to check my levels though.

I’m taking pumpkin seed oil - have been for over 6 months and it’s really worked. My hair is a lot denser now.

Sallyyoohoo · 06/04/2026 06:42

Thanks everyone. I've ordered some Philip Kingsley products and pumpkin seed oil supplements.

Give the pumpkin seed oil a good 3-4 months, it takes a while but worked wonders for my hair. Six months in and so much more dense.

@Iaeve, which pumpkin seed oil capsules please? I might give them a go!

Iaeve · 07/04/2026 07:49

@Itsnotraininganymore I use HealthAid pumpkin seed oil capsules cold pressed 1000mg and take one a day.
