What would you wear in Spain around 20 degrees on holiday?

Going away to spain in a week. Weather is only about 20 degrees. What sort of things would you be wearing around the pool and wandering about the town?
I am thinking loose dress with something to cover my shoulders?
Any suggestions?

20 is lovely if sunny and not windy. Definitely dress and sandals. Likely a cardigan in the evenings.

Walking around town, jeans, t-shirt or shirt and light jumper. I don't think 20c is warm enough to lie around by the pool!

Summerishere123 · 30/03/2026 22:13

@HostaCentral I don't think DD is going to let us get away with no pool time!

Agree with PP - I couldn’t sit round a pool in 20 degrees! In a city I’d be in jeans and a cardi probably

I think 20 is a bit too warm for jeans. Chinos/cargos/lightweight trousers, trainers, t-shirt with a lightweight shirt unbuttoned over the top as a layer. Possibly a denim jacket if it gets a bit cooler.

Me neither - I’d be freezing lying around the pool if it were only 20C. I honestly couldn’t even wear a summer dress in that weather, so I’d say jeans, T shirt, leather jacket and trainers for a typical outfit.

We have just spent a week on Là Gomera at that temp. I am mainly in pool swimming, ours heated to 25C, unheated was very cold if windy and borderline if swimming. Heated was fine for swimming. Fine to sit round pool. Most are in swimwear plus skirt or top and skirt /longer shorts/ trousers.

Trips out depends what doing, dolphin and whale boat trip most had t shirts and long shorts or long sleeve blouse and capris or similar. A few dressed like it’s winter and they are off to Scotland hiking in 10C. I wore dresses here, knee length and not the really thin ones. Been fine though I am post menopause.

Nobody in jeans. Some with cardigans and worth bringing layers. I brought but hardly used.

thedevilinablackdress · 31/03/2026 07:20

Linen or cotton trousers, maybe shorts if warm enough. Vest or t-shirt with a shirt open over it.

Pineappleice43 · 31/03/2026 07:22

In Spain now, it's hotter than you think! Shorts, tops, in day. Maybe a light cardigan for first thing/evenings.

Overthebow · 31/03/2026 07:24

I hope you have a heated pool! I’d say shorts and tshirt with light jumper to put on if you get chilly, or dress and cardigan.

Shinyhappyapple · 31/03/2026 22:04

Really depends on if you are in full sun or shade and whether there’s a wind. I visit Spain most winters and wear light trousers/jeans, T shirt and hoodie (which I normally take off early afternoon) when it’s around 17/18 degrees. At 20 degrees in the sun you should be OK in cropped trousers or denim shorts. I would quite happily sit on a lounger and read but I can’t imagine going in for a swim. Will probably be quite chilly in the evening though.

mynameiscalypso · 31/03/2026 22:12

We were in southern Spain a couple of weeks ago ago and it was around 20. I was comfy in jeans and a t-shirt in the sun. Out of it, I needed a jacket or cardigan. I actually ended up buying a coat while we were there as I was very chilly at night.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/03/2026 22:18

I was in Malaga region a few weeks ago and that was day time temp, evenings and mornings were cooler. Jeans, tshirt and a hoodie were fine evenings and mornings, then me and DD were both comfortable in shorts and T-shirts during the day. Outdoor I heated pools were too cold to use, but the indoor heated pool was lovely and it was nice sitting on the loungers on the beach or by the pool.

We were in Florida in January around a pool in swimwear at 20degrees. It was definitely warm enough to lay in the sun and be in the pool.

50NotFat · 31/03/2026 22:52

I was in Spain a few weeks ago at 18/19 degrees. T-shirt and shorts were fine in the day but definitely needed a denim jacket for the late afternoon/evening. Definitely wasn’t warm enough for lounging around the pool, even when it was the hottest part of the day. Some of our group had hoodies on the beach at one point!
