Can anyone advise me on reputable sites for prom dresses? I'm so confused by the masses of suggestions that come up on Google! Thank you

I know of a good prom dress shop, but that’s no good if you’re not in the area where the shop is.

I was in Anthropologie yesterday and they had a couple of very pretty prom style dresses and an offer on. My dd is off to prom this year and half of her friends have gone to prom dress shops, a few have got bridesmaid type dresses (one has a beautiful burgundy dress) a few high street shops (dd is one - she got hers in Jan sales when there were formal type dresses in, it’s quite slinky but she’s not a traditional prom dress shape or style) and a few from shein/vinted. I’d therefore suggest casting the net wide

We bought dd’s from an actual prom dress shop. Yes it was expensive but such fun trying them all on etc. It was also full of year 11 girls and their mums so a great atmosphere. You need to book an appointment and allow time for alterations.

My DD got hers from JJsHouse. Yes, it came from China. Yes, it was cheap. Yes, it was great. Lots of her friends got one from there, too, and nobody had any problems. It’s been around as a company for quite a while.

Thanks so much for replying everyone, I really appreciate you taking the time. Very helpful and has given me lots to think about!

This has been really helpful for me too. DD has left it very late but I am reassured to see that JJs House is a viable option.

ASOS was the go to for my DDs. Plus Liberty do Topshop and loads of the dresses are suitable for a prom.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 02/05/2026 18:53

My Dd bought hers on Vinted, there are lots there, and it’s brand new. She was so pleased, only cost about £50.

kohlrabislaw · 02/05/2026 18:57

Vinted. It’s got so many dresses that people have bought from JJs, Stacees that are made in china that they can’t return.

hahabahbag · 02/05/2026 19:01

If any of you are still struggling to find one and live in the Bristol area I have multiple clogging up
my spare rooms, mostly 8-10 - belong to know adult DDs who have left home. Can lend them out, just ask if they can be returned clean. They aren’t expensive ones, mostly Ever Pretty or chi chi London

PineappleCoconut · 02/05/2026 19:01

JJs here.

Only issue we had was paying for the returns as the post office branch wouldn’t accept the pre printed return label for the try on dresses, which should have been free.

but the dresses were lovely and reasonable costs for a prom dress

Mumdiva99 · 02/05/2026 19:03

I just bought one from stacees. It can't be returned do bare that in mind.
Debenhams also had some nice dresses for about £60.

DaydreamerBetty · 02/05/2026 19:13

Stacees was really good and can be custom fitted for £16. It arrived promptly and was impressed with the service overall. They asked when the dress was needed and for what occasion. I was a bit reluctant at first to order as it was coming from China but all was good and would definitely use them again. The dress came well packaged too.

flippertygibbet4 · 03/05/2026 12:52

Thanks everyone for your replies, we got one on Vinted in the end, Stacees brand. It's fantastic and only cost £34!!
