Do pockets in dresses spoil the fit or is it my shape?

Everyone seems to get so excited when a dress has pockets.

Now, they are very very handy. I do like them in my work dresses.

But is it my body shape, or does anyone else find they alter the line/ shape/ fit of a dress and not in a good way?

I'm totally with you. My hips are wide enough, I don't need pockets adding extra bulk.

I think a lot depends on the fit. I find a shallow pocket tends to pull on the seams as well as not being very good at being a place to put things.

I agree, I’m very wide of hip anyway so depending on their placement they just jut out massively. I do love the idea of convenient pockets. Usually they are shallow and useless anyway!

I agree with you, but I always have a bag with me for phone, keys, paracetamol, mini nail file etc etc

I LOVE finding a dress with pockets, but that doesn't mean I stuff it full of bulky things.

Also, depends a bit where the pockets are / style of the dress I presume.

Yes it most likely is body shape.

It's not filling them thats the problem for me. When they're empty they sort of add "extra" to the sides or gap/ buldge a bit

Id never use the pockets to put anything in snyway it would ruin the shape of the dress.
Can you imagine a lovely dress with pockets stuffed with wallet, car keys etc?

I don't wear dresses that don't have pockets.

I think the material needs a decent weight. A light cotton summer dress with pockets does add to the bulk, which suits some women and not others.
Ironing the pockets helps a bit.

Omg, I love a dress with pockets. Believe it or not the best dress with pockets I ever bought came from M&Co when they were still on the high street. It was just the loveliest fit and I'm a weird shape 😁

Yeah pockets often ruin the shape of the dress, and adding phone/keys to them makes it worse. If it's a casual bulky style dress it can look okay but if it's a more floaty/elegant dress then it looks shite

I very rarely put things in my trousers pockets so I don't really understand the hype around pockets in dresses

I always have things in my pockets but my dresses are not floaty thin ones.

I love pockets to put my hands in sometimes, never put ‘things’ in (apart from maybe a tissue)

The dresses need to have an A-line shape and be reasonably weighty. My heavy weight dresses can cope with a phone or keys in the pocket. I mainly don't keep things in the pockets long term but it's really useful for e.g. nipping to the loo in the office and taking your phone with you, or going down the stairs with more things that I can carry.

My wedding dress had pockets!! Was great for putting a tissue in 😂

I only ever use my pockets for my hands but I've never noticed any pockets hanging weird though.
Not sure if that's coz I don't wear fitted dresses or coz I'm not very hippy!

I have several jersey shift dresses and the pockets look a bit weird on those. I also have a fair few Monsoon dresses and I'm not sure any of them have pockets. I don't miss pockets so much since I gave up smoking.
