Comfortable summer hat ideas for a 50-year-old wearing jeans on a budget

I need to wear hats this summer for medical reasons and am really struggling to find something that suits me and feels comfortable.

I'm not really a hat person at all. I liked baseball caps when I was younger, but feel too old now. I have a small head so liked that I could use a ponytail to keep them on as I always feel like hats will blow off! Even then I rarely wore them. Now, I'm 50 and slightly overweight... I have a straw hat that I feel almost comfortable in when wearing a dress (rare) and baseball caps for the garden.

Can anyone suggest anything for out and about in jeans / trousers? Budget is minimal.

Thanks

Tilley hats are fantastic and indestructible. They also look quite smart. Tilley Hats

I like the vintage wanderer style I could see that working with jeans and Tshirt in the summer.

There’s a great hat website called Village Hats. It has lots of styles and hats that come in different sizes (I have a small head so hats that only come in one size are no good for me!)

The adventure hemp one is lovely too. My son has that one and sometimes I steal it!

I just get the cheap ones from Primark that have the plastic adjustable strap. They stay on and have a flattering shape for a small head. I have embraced the baseball cap in my 50's as any other summer hat made me look like Gromit in his garden. link doesn't work but I'm sure you get the idea

I’m 49 & I wear a baseball cap at times (my epilepsy is triggered by flickering sunlight for one thing); I don’t feel too old; when I went to a Greek island last year everyone was wearing baseball caps on the beach including the greek women. I also see quite a few women wearing them locally here with sportswear as it’s just a fashionable look at present.

Tilley hat. They come in many styles and multiple sizes so you can get a really good fit. They stay on well and they last forever. I've had mine for over 25 years and it's still as good as new. Well worth the money.

Thanks all 😊

I like the Tilly ones, especially the fringe wanderer, but they are way out of my price range. Some good ideas though.

I will have a look at Primark next time I'm somewhere near one.

Thanks also for all the reassurance that a baseball cap if fine at my age. Baker cap also a good shout.
