Fat and over 50 - why to wear in Ibiza?

As the title suggests, I am 53, overweight and off to Ibiza in June. Any suggestions for cool and stylish clothes to wear that won’t look ridiculous. Many thanks.

What size and height are you

WednesdaysChild73 · 18/03/2026 19:52

Honestly, I would wear whatever you want and feel comfortable in. Linen is cool and comfortable, beach cover ups can hid a multitude of sins. I follow lux_island on FB, she is a plus size and recently has been trying on some summer clothes etc

Imtoooldforallthis · 18/03/2026 19:52

And budget? Would you shop off Shein?

FedAndWatered · 18/03/2026 21:04

Lux island is fab but she has very long legs & things look great on her! I couldn’t get away with the same clothes.

Jazzicatz · 18/03/2026 21:06

I am a size 16 and 5’9 and an apple shape. I have quite a good budget and tend to go for slower fashion and breathable fabrics as I am perimenopausal.

Book a pedicure etc so you feel confident.

Similar age, size 14 but shorter and I wear a lot of dresses
no having to match tops and bottoms, keep me cool and flow over the belly!

msmillicentcat · 18/03/2026 21:27

I usually wear long summer dresses such as this

Linen trousers and shorts are super useful, look nice paired with a camisole or vest top (like in the pic) and you can throw a linen shirt on if you want to cover up a bit more. Linen trousers can also look fabulous with a matching waistcoat style top.

Good accessories and sandals can make a fairly basic outfit into something more fabulous!

Would you wear shorts? There are some lovely summer short sets around.

I'm 5 ft 8 and was a size 16 in Ibiza last year. I wore mostly knee length dresses always with waist shaping, nothing baggy as it just make you look bigger.

minnowonthesay · 18/03/2026 22:03

I wore this slightly longer style of denim shorts last year and lived them. Lots of silky camis, kimono style jackets, cotton off shoulder tops
Cotton trousers or shorts co ords too
The other thing I love are the Zara combat style skorts with a vest top or combat style cropped trousers

I am a size 20 and went to Ibiza last year. I promise you that you will see all sizes and shapes on the beach and the most important thing is for you to feel comfortable. I wore a bikini (something I didn’t think I’d feel comfortable doing!) and lots of cropped wide leg trousers from h and m most of the time.

minnowonthesay · 18/03/2026 22:15

Oh also, this was brilliant last year on holiday, cotton cheesecloth, pull on, pockets, I had the black and I’ve bought the cream this year too, so comfortable and great for breakfast, beach, after a shower, also looks good with a shirt or denim jacket over
