How to style this denim dress?

I recently took the plunge and bought this denim dress that I loved the look of, which is unusual for me as I never wear denim unless it's jeans, and even then wear those rarely.

Now that I've got it, I do like it, but on its own I'm not really sure it's complete. Im not sure what shoes to wear with it at all, or jacket / coat, either. Haven't even considered what jewelry would suit it. I also don't want to overdress it as I feel that denim is quite statement as it is.

Im 5'1 as well and it comes up a bit long on me. I would want shoes that add height, but ideally not high heels. It would be for everyday casual wear. Size 6 if that makes any difference, bottom heavy.

Bonus points if anyone has suggestions on hairstyles to match it...

I wear denim dresses a lot.

  • black tights and biker boots with big baggy cardigan over the top
  • long sleeve T-shirt underneath and brown/tan heeled boots (tights or bare legs depending on weather
  • wear with trainers (I have adidas sambas) and glittery socks
  • no tights and sandals in the summer
  • add a scarf, replace the belt with a leather belt, ballet flats
  • wear with leggings and blundstones or leggings and trainers underneath
  • wear open as a duster coat over a T-shirt and baggy joggers with trainers

Will probably think of more!

Thank you! Really like the idea of some of these suggestions. I couldn't help but fixate on the white shoes the model is wearing and think what on earth do I wear with it, as white trainers really arent for me.

Really like the idea of replacing the belt with a different one, i think that with the right shoes and jacket it would really tie it all together. Thanks!

I would absolutely wear tan or red sandals with that dress. I’m not sure about styling your hair to match? Probably anything but a fancy updo. Great dress!

I have that same Joe Browns dress, but the version with long sleeves, and I wear it regularly with black tights and ankle boots. I have silver boots and blue velvet boots which look awesome! It is literally my favourite outfit!

Black boots also work but funky footwear is my thing so I tend not to wear them with this.

Jewellery wise I usually wear a silver chain with a mid sized pendant and silver drop earrings or hoops.

Hair wise, I have a short curly bob so I dont have many other ways to wear mine!

I love that dress and I'd be teaming it with chunky tan sandals ( warm weather) or tan knee high boots ( cold weather) for a 70s vibe

Blue velvet boots sound divine and now I need some. Im thinking of staying in my comfort zone and opting for black boots / black chunky trainers, as i already feel way out my comfort zone wearing this lol. Its such a beautiful dress! But when im wearing something I dont normally i just feel so overly anxious and weird lol.

Love the idea for jewelry too. I think a pendant sat in the middle of the open neck zipped down a bit would be gorgeous, and dangle earrings would just make it.

You hair sounds beautiful BTW. I asked for hairstyle suggestions as my hair is (often annoyingly) very long and covers most outfits I wear. I think straight, down, and pushed behind my shoulders would look okay. Thank you!

Ooh, I love this suggestion too! Never really considered tan boots, but i think it would even out the depth of the navy denim. I actually got some new ones recently and will try them with this. Thanks!
