Wedding is in June. Want something not overtly wedding-y so I can wear it for lots of other occasions too. Thinking cream or brown sandals with it.

@PhaedraWas It’s sold out in her size. Most people think it’s a faulty cheap fabric, the Hobbs one is almost certainly better quality.

It's also 5 times the price. I am not saying I can't afford the Hobbs one but I am loathe to spend £175 on something which will not be worn often. Most of my wardrobe is second hand as I hate fast fashion so much - I am looking for something similar on Vinted but their search is so rubbish.

If it's the brown spot you like there are some options. If it's the shape I like some of the other colourways in that same dress, particularly the green with the large leaf print.

These are all nice - but I wouldn't wear anything sleeveless. Will keep looking. I'm not wedded to the polka dot but always gravitate to florals and wanted to get something different.

Ooh Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman was my first thought. I really like it op and hope it comes back in your size.

As regarding quality, unless I'm going to be in the family pics or it's a close friend, I don't worry too much about it for a wedding outfit as there's a very high chance it'll end up with something spilt down it. (Or maybe that's just me?) I've worn Sainsbury's to a wedding before and felt perfectly appropriate.

Yiayoula · 14/03/2026 09:38

Can confirm the Phase Eight Lucinda dress is good quality and very lovely , but unfortunately was too long for me at 5ft 2in.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 14/03/2026 09:39

I think it looks perfect for a wedding. I'm rolling my eyes at everyone wanging on about quality.

Ponoka7 · 14/03/2026 09:50

I must be common as muck. I have the green and pink/red in it, for extra nice days out involving lunch etc and going into the evening, over summer, both were reasonable quality. I'd even get away with them at and informal race meeting. They are all fine for a wedding. Although I like to take the chance to dress up a bit more, for a wedding.

TheGoddessAthena · 14/03/2026 09:57

I like the pink/red one and the greenish floral version too. I don't want to buy something so fancy that I couldn't wear it for other occasions too. I liked the dress initially because it was wedding appropriate (I thought) but could also be worn on other occasions too. I am definitely not a "buy an outfit to wear once" person, so wasteful.

Honestly whoever styles Phase Eight should be fired unless they promise never to do this again. Having got past the terrible first and second pictures there's a reasonably pretty summer dress but those shoes, jacket, fascinator and clutch bag are criminal.

If I had that dress I'd dress it down to be a wearable day dress with flat ballet pumps, plimsolls or flat espadrilles and if need be a cropped, boxy cardigan.

Quick search on Vinted, posted by Zwinfield (not me!). I like the 2 different patterns. I too am attending a June wedding and bought lots of stuff and am now trying to sell them all on!

Appreciate the genuine reasons, but I think there must only be Mumsnet where more expensive versions of things are put forward, rather than the other way round! Next varies a lot and things are often fine quality-wise, so worth trying if the size comes in. The style is lovely for a summer wedding

Lurkingandlearning · 14/03/2026 21:04

The dress is lovely and looks fine by itself . I’m wondering how those big spots will look in photos when you are standing beside people. It might look a bit OTT in an odd way

Bluegreenbird · 14/03/2026 21:09

I love the Scarlett & Jo Isabelle dress. Have it in three colours. There are always some colours in the sale like this spot one: bargain at £47

@Ghyllscramble Where would you find a dress for a wedding that’s cheaper? Chinese web sites? It’s better to have better quality that lasts and is better designed.

PancakeHouse · 14/03/2026 22:51

There is a similar style dress in Sainsbury’s at the moment, about £25 I think, if there’s one near you, you could try it on to see how the style suits you?

MangoesAndPeaches · 15/03/2026 00:46

It’s in stock in a 14 Tall. Maybe worth trying it on depending on your height?

GarlicFound · 15/03/2026 01:16

I like the one you chose, OP, and hope you find it in your size.

If not, would any of these suit you? Nobody's Child polka dot dresses with sleeves, size 14.

The one in the picture's £45, with an extra 15% off atm.

I bought a similar dress in Stradivarius the other day. It’s very flattering and comfortable to wear, but can also be dressed up

Much less interesting and without a blazer would be too boring and undressy

Well that's if you believe that more expensive automatically means 'better'. It sometimes does, sometimes doesn't but it's not a given.

The Next dresses are not Shein/Temu level, they are decently made and designed by those designing for many of the high street labels.

Yeah I like sleeves too. You have until June so plenty of time. Might be worth going into a big store and trying a few things in real life - I find online can be overwhelming and something that looks like it will be good just isn't.

Live Vinted and charity shops too - have you got any decent ones near you? A lot of occasion dresses will have been worn once and then donated.

TheGoddessAthena · 15/03/2026 10:09

I'm not keen on V-necks or sleeveless which is why the Next one appealed. I like the whole shape of it as much as the pattern. I am a short arse so the tall would be no good. I am hoping that if other sizes are coming back into stock then there might be availability before I need it. If not, will probably order it in the red/pink colourway.

It is a cheaper dress but I want something I can wear to this wedding and which is wedding appropriate, but is not so overtly wedding-y that it cannot be worn in lots of other situations. I am a "buy something and wear it until it falls to pieces" person rather than a "buy lots of clothes and discard after 1-2 wears" person. That is also why I won't be buying a blazer or other items to match, I have no need for a blazer in other situations.

OP posts:
OhDear111 · 15/03/2026 11:14

Blazers are work style really. I think you get more wear out of better crafted clothes. If you want longevity, I’d spend a bit more.
