Chinese scam websites - wedding season be aware

I came across a multitude of scammy Chinese websites while looking for a dress for a wedding. The images on those websites look glossy and prices are mid-range, but when I checked the reviews on Trustpilot, they were all horrendous. It seems that once you order from them, you are stuck with the goods, and they make it impossible to return them or receive a full refund. They use Google & Metas ads to lure people onto their websites.

I don’t understand why the government isn’t doing anything to stop these websites from operating.

I don't see what the government can do if they're clear on their site you need to pay to return items to China (as the one I looked at said... calling it "hassle-free returns"!)

Perhaps you'd have a case that items aren't as described but you'd have a hard time proving this was the case for all items unless people actually buy them. Maybe a large-scale investigation is needed but until then - as always - buyer beware.
