Want to invest in a great shampoo

I am turning 40 soon and I have decided this year will be the year I invest in myself!

So with that in mind I am looking for a great shampoo/conditioner, salon style! I have pretty thin hair and it’s just a bit dull, it never looks that different. I did buy a style hairdryer which I like but I would love more volume and shine.

Any ideas? thank you!

Would also recommend Aveda, especially Pure Abundance shampoo or Shampure shampoo and Phomollient styling foam- AMAZING stuff for fine hair…

I use pureology hydrate (purple bottle) and the L’Oréal pink glycolic conditioner (you can get this in supermarkets and boots etc) - a great combo!

Oh yes, and when I can afford it, Aveda Botanical Repair Mask

This https://gisou.com/products/honey-gloss-hair-routine is amazing the shampoo & conditioner is amazing. But the oil has transformed my hair and you can use it alone or add it to the conditioner.

I’ve probably tried most of the salon hair products, it’s my guilty pleasure! The best at the upper price range of lovely shampoo and conditioner is Oribe or Sebastian. I’m addicted to trying hair products and splurge on them. In my opinion Oribe is the best ever available but very spendy.
My next favourites (still spendy just not as much as the 2 above) are Kerastase and Pureology.

after that I’d probably go for L’Oréal Professional or Redken. I’ve never been a fan of Aveda personally, it does nothing for my hair but works for a lot.

I love Davines and Klorane.

Another vote for Aveda. They often have 20% off sales. Once you find the range of theirs that you like best, financially it's a great deal to get the 1l bottles. Big purchase, but they last a year for me.

Pureology hydrate Sheer. I always go back to this.

How do you find the sheer? I live the normal hydrate!

I have thin hair and use mood, kerestate or ouai. Ouai shampoo and conditioner for thin hair are my favourite but they are £££
whatever you get I would try travel size first. Everyone’s hair is different and the amount of money I’ve wasted on products that don’t work for me is shocking.

I use Coco and Eve. I have fine hair and it was really dry and damaged from bleaching. My hair is now soft and shiny. It’s pricey, but it lasts about six months.

I’ve tried most shampoo known to man and did not rate oribe or gissou. Ouai is good as is kerastase and surprisingly bedhead ones and they’re good value for money. A lot of the really expensive ones are not that good.

I should preface this by saying I use l’occitan shampoos and conditioners because I love the smell and the feel of luxury. But….

back in the mists of time i worked at Whcih? Magazine and we tested out a whole range of fancy shampoos. We decanted them into plain bottles and the testing panel didn’t know what they were using. We had a few supermarket value/basic brands in there and these did just as well in people’s perceptions. So I think the take away if that it very much a matter of personal preference. Shampoo is essentially a detergent which you wash straight out of your hair so it is v unlikely to actually have measurable effects. If you enjoy using one particular one then go for it, but don’t expect it to work miracles

I like Amika and Coco and Eve. For a more high st shampoo I really like Nak.

I keep reading good things about Aveda and want to try that next.

Another who uses Kerastase, I've been using it for over three years and it's really made a difference to my quite fine but fairly thick, highlighted hair.

They have a large range of different hair types. I use in rotation: Volume, thickener, blonde absolu and Premier. I don't use conditioner very often as my hair doesn't like it, but use a treatment every now and then from the Premier range. I use far less shampoo with these than I did with the high street brands.

It's not a cheap shampoo but I order online and sometimes get a free sample gift that one of my friends loves to receive if I don't want it.

If you find something that works for you it won’t be an extravagance. I’ve been using shampoo and conditioner from The Steam Bar for a few months - probably not what you’re after but I find a five pence piece amount of shampoo is ample, so the bottle will probably last me a year. That may well be the case with other seemingly expensive shampoos.

Oh - old thread! You’ve probably been using whatever you bought for months now.

I agree with you about shampoos. The one I bought recently (last one!) was a DOP French egg protein one. That was just in one of those shops that sell all sorts of hair and beauty products. Conditioner is what I spend more on.
