Simple viscose midaxi dress (petite)

Inspired by the "cheap but irreplaceable" thread....

I have a dress that I've been trying to equal for years. Its viscose, looks pretty straight up and down on the hanger, but has a little empire tailoring and t shirt style sleeves. It's black.

I love it. It's super comfy, really nice and cool in summer but great for layering in autumn or winter.

Everything seems to have puff sleeves or so many frills. This is just simple, has a lovely shape and really easy to style to suit different occasions.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where i might find something similar?

The dress itself is in the attic.

But similar shape to this, maybe sleeves and skirt a little less full, and mine is black.

For me this style seems to hit the sweet spot between shapeless sack and OTT design.

What make is it?

GrateWay · 05/03/2026 08:39

My original one is very old and was originally from Dorothy Perkins.

The one is the pic is pixie girl but I think it's polyester, which I hate the feel of wearing. So sweaty!

Might be worth looking at Ghost. I don't think they do petite but the bias cut makes it more flexible to different body shapes. (I'm also petite).

Sorry didn't check, that one has hardly any sizes left. But it comes in another 3 prints that do. And worth browsing WF dresses generally I think @GrateWay .

Uniqlo definitely does minimalist shapes like this and a lot of viscose

I’d check there

Thanks everyone. I had a look at the recommendations and have a few things ordered!

I cannot disagree, but what isn't overpriced these days? At least they focus on nature fibres.

Sure... anything in particular?

EvelynBeatrice · 05/03/2026 16:12

Maybe Finery?

Hundreds of dresses!

I have a Finery dress very much like you describe which was actually a TK Maxx bargain a couple of years ago and my first introduction to the brand. It is beautifully cut.

I have a dress from Matalan that’s viscose (hangs beautifully) and a very similar shape-it looked nothing on the hanger but is really flattering!

It was a few years ago though.
