Warning about fakes on Vinted - more and more brands being targeted

Just that really. I go through stages of loving Vinted and then banning myself from it, but overall I still enjoy finding things on there.

BUT it is being flooded with fakes and the scams are getting more sophisticated. At the moment there are, for example, loads of “new Sezane handbags” being sold - all around the £80 mark. Be careful. It is very easy for sellers to generate a good rating and set up multiple accounts.

it used to be mainly designer hand bags and sports brands etc being targeted. Now it’s other things. There are fake lululemon and Sezane clothes being sold on there.

Agreed. I'm seeing lots of fake Jo Malone on Vinted. Could end up good for the brand though as it just puts me off buying on Vinted, I'd much rather pay full price direct from Jo Malone than risk a Vinted fake.

NOTANUM · 01/03/2026 19:22

I think this is true.. There are so many Onitsuka Tigers that cannot all have new sellers and labels intact. I didn’t bother in the end.
I reckon they target mid priced goods as people might be less fussy about the possibility of a fake.

Bedofroses85 · 01/03/2026 22:35

Any hints how to spot a fake with sezane or reformation? I’m always tempted to buy they are pricey so wouldn’t want to make a massive mistake

YelloyellowBlue · 01/03/2026 22:38

@Bedofroses85 im no expert but I tend to look at the label picture a lot, and if its badly sewn on, I tend to assume its a fake. I've read so much on Sezane fakes that id never buy those on Vinted ever. There are Facebook groups where you can buy and sell Sezane specifically

searchforthesun · 01/03/2026 22:53

I bought some Alo trainers that ended up being fake. Vinted were useless. I ended up buying from the shop as it’s not worth the risk. I didn’t think they bothered making fakes for mid priced items but it’s becoming more common unfortunately.

It is difficult. Key clues are - more than one item of the same type at very attractive prices - this often looks like different sellers, but it’s often the same person with different accounts. Check what else they are selling - it’s often an odd mix. Obviously check labels and ask questions.

The “Sezane” cardigans and jumpers with weird flat backgrounds - pictures that don’t quite show the labels etc “jaunty” angles and none that really show the angles. No tape measures, the seller has several other brand name items (Patagonia, Hoka trainers)

This one is an example but there are multiple

making Vinted really frustrating to sift through with the size fuckwittery too

I often think the cosmetics and perfumes are fake. Why would someone have so many multiples of brand new high end things to sell?

Tons of Trinny London, Jo Malone. Others too of course but I particularly notice these as are my favourites.

I won’t buy anything from vinted except clearly secondhand but good condition clothes because you cannot trust people.

greenrabbit100 · 02/03/2026 07:09

I wouldn’t buy Sezane or trainers, it’s too risky. Generally I look at what else they are selling to see if it is just someone clearing their wardrobe or someone with a suspicious amount of new items. I did just buy a handbag but it had tags on it which looked real. Plus it’s a low end brand and I only laid out £20, I wouldn’t risk much more on handbags either.

MadisonMontgomery · 02/03/2026 07:20

This 100%! I have seen TikTok videos where people are pitching this as a business idea, to buy fakes and sell them on Vinted as legit for a profit. I would encourage anyone to look on DHgate, and before buying on Vinted look on there to see if you can buy a fake version and approach buying accordingly - it is so many brands now, and not ones people would always expect!

I always look at what other items people have listed, i.e. are there multiples of the same item, is everything ‘brand new with tags’. It just annoys me so much that people will be buying in good faith thinking they’ve got a great deal when they’re getting scammed.

LadyClumber · 02/03/2026 09:26

I am a fan of ME+EM and regularly scour Vinted for bargains. A few times, I have spotted the identical item (ie same photo) being sold by different sellers. I don’t know if these are fakes, but it does make my ‘spidey-sense’ tingle.

Catatemysandwich · 02/03/2026 09:37

Avoid the Birkenstock Bostons! I bought some that were new with tags - supposedly an unwanted present. They turned up and were as described, I was delighted. Then the next day an identical pair turned up… so obviously a mistake by a dishonest seller, not from an individual. I’d already accepted the order so Vinted wouldn’t do anything. I assume they may be stolen and now I have two pairs!

Yes there’s loads of fake Birkenstocks available on Vinted - which is fine if people know they are buying a fake, but I suspect most people will think they are legit.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/03/2026 17:15

There’s also a lot of stolen goods. If someone’s a lot of BNWTs items from the same shop in a range of sizes, I’d think fake or stolen.

Fonty · 07/03/2026 09:39

I’ve noticed in recent days, lots of ME&EM items e.g. cardigans/jumpers in Medium allegedly BNWT at really odd low prices such as £38.67. When you look at the sellers other items there are none, or one weird ornament. Really frustrating

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 07/03/2026 10:25

Particularly with Sezane, but seeing it with other brands too - what I don’t understand is that often the things that are being sold do not remotely resemble anything from the brand in question … i.e. lurid knits claiming to be Sezane, then people claiming they’ve been duped.

If they liked the Sezane look, they wouldn’t have liked the jumper they’ve bought anyway, so what on earth is that about?

LadyClumber · 07/03/2026 10:34

I have noticed this with ME+EM x-small - multiples of identical items and backgrounds but with different seller identities. When you look at what else they are selling there are LOADS of BNWT ME+EM clothes. I can't believe that there are people who legitimately purchase that amount of clothing and never wear it!

Followthesunshine · 07/03/2026 10:39

I'm continually surprised by the people that can't spot the Sezane fake cardigans - they look nothing like the cardigans Sezane sell and the fakes are hideous. The problem is Vinted refuse to deal with it even when reported.

MynameisJune · 07/03/2026 10:51

If you look on DH Gate, Hacoo or Ali express you’ll find fakes of most high end high street brands like Maje, Sezane, Sandro etc.

I just assume most BNWT items are now fakes to be honest. I always request pictures of care labels as you can usually tell fakes that way as they’re rarely as detailed as the really thing. Bad stitching is often a giveaway too.

I’d never buy a handbag or trainers from Vinted now unfortunately.

FlappicusSmith · 20/04/2026 10:35

I just fell for Vinted fakes hook line and sinker! Jellycats in my case (for my daughter's birthday). I just didn't even think about the counterfeit thing as I was a bit oblivious to how in demand, and therefore ripe for counterfeiting, Jellycats are.

Flipping furious with myself for being so gullable. And for Vinted for being complicit in the fakes trade. Because I'd already accepted the items I have no recourse and I tried reporting the sellers to Vinted but they said there was no 'evidence'. So, they're still on there, selling exactly the same 'brand new with tags' items I bought about 5 days ago. Grrrrrrrrrr.

nois · 20/04/2026 10:38

my daughter got some fake Adidas trainers on there. I won’t use the site anymore.
