Just booked first ever spray tan. Any advice gratefully received as I am feeling ridiculously nervous about it.

It's cool. You'll enjoy it.

It's a bit cold, but not uncomfortably so.

Any reason you are nervous? Only, I am allergic to spray tans (brings me out in small red spots - not sure why)

scrub all your rough bits, i.e
elbows
knees
knuckles
in fact scrub your whole body
have any manicure pedicure after not before
you usually just wear a paper thing, shave /wax underarms a couple of days before.
good luck!

hifi · 16/06/2008 16:15

paper thong, not thing.

glinda · 16/06/2008 16:21

oh god - standing about feeling hideously exposed wearing nothing but a paper thong - and you ask why I am nervous?

Thanks for the advice. Hadn't thought about a pedicure or anything like that.

they ask you to hold your boobs up aswell, to spray under, unless yours are vv perky. they have seen it all before.

Honastly glinda don;t even think about it! I had my first spray tan earlier this year and it was fine! And bearing in mind I'd only had DD2 a few months ago I was very scared about baring all. But the salon staff are proffesionals and won't even bat an eyelid.

I had a St trop spray on and, if you want a really nice glowing tan, ask them to do you twice. For golden, just once will be fine.

After I'd had mine I felt great! (you get colour straight away) and then, the next day it was a smooth, perfect tan.

One thing though that I was not expecting; after the tanning was done, I was asked to get dressed but minus a bra to avoid lines caused by the straps. But, I had on a strapless bra anyway (was wearing a loose fitting silky vest top as was advised to wear loose clothing) so I was able to put that on. Going without a bra for the rest of the day (I am busty) is a no no for me. So, just expect this and if you are like me, wear a strapless bra (or take one with you)

Oooh I'll follow this thread with interest as I'm thinking about having my first one.

Do you have sensitive skin youcannotbeserious? That worries me.

Moomin · 16/06/2008 21:39

I had a st tropez two weeks ago and the colour was gorgeous. I'm pale and it gave me a lovely healthy glow. I wore loose-fitting black clothes - wore their paper knickers for the spray and the girl doing it was fanstastic, really out me at ease. The knickers are fairly skimpy, so I'd advise giving your fanjo a quick tidy up, even if it's just round the old spiders legs if you don't usually bother!

I'm big of nork and needed the bra afterwards but stood in front of a heater for a while to try and dry things off a bit before I put my clothes back on.

One thing that was funny was when I got home and was getting undressed for bed - when I took my bra off and lifted my norks up I had two white patches where each one had been dangling resting.

And when you shower, pat yourself dry rather than rub with a towel or the tan will wear off quicker.

glinda · 17/06/2008 08:23

Blondilocks - I have to have a patch test a couple of days before to check for sensitivity.

Moomin, did you have shoulder marks from your bra straps?

I would love a spray tan but have been too nervous about it (feel enormous and floppy-boobed since DS was born). But this thread is encouraging.

How long does the colour last?

Jewelsandgems · 17/06/2008 09:03

paperdoll, I had the spray on tan because I was attending a black tie event in a strapless dress so I needed the finish to be flawless (and it was).

When I fake tan at home, I do find that, even it it is dry when I put my bra back on, there are slights marks where the straps have rubbed a little of it away. And for normal day to day this is fine (in summer I usually wear strapless bras all the time anyway so no need to worry there)

And seriously don't worry about the droopy boobs situation, the tanning applicator girls have seen it all before and probobley alot worse than you. And it's for literally a few mins, all over before you know it. I went to a salon in Leamington and the girl was very friendly and made me feel at ease immediatly - the staff at proffessional, well regarded salons know that getting vitrually naked infront of some stranger is no easy task and I found that they are very respectful of that.
