Recommend me a home hair dye colour

I will start by saying I neither have the money or inclination to get my hair done at the hairdressers, this is purely for recommendations for home dyes.

I have very dark brown hair naturally. Have a lot of grey around my temples and so 3 months ago decided to colour it for the first time in years. I used a Garnier colour in a dark brown and it looked lovely for a while. As it has faded out it has a lot of red tones to it which I don't like and it is significantly lighter than my natural colour growing back through.

Can anyone recommend a dark brown colour that doesn't have red undertones or fade to a much lighter shade?

Thank you!

L’Oréal Excellence 2U Universal darkest brown is, well, excellent! It has lovely dark tones that don’t go brassy red. And it conditions the hair beautifully, so glossy. I have very grey roots and it covers them well. I highly recommend it. Early 50s here.
Whichever one you go for, if you do feel the reddish tones are too much, using a purple shampoo (usually marketed for blondes) really takes the red tones out your hair. I use provoke touch of silver now and then and it keeps the tones cooler.
