Time between nail appointments

Hi ladies. I like to get dipped nails done every three weeks but I’ve been stretching it out to four to save a bit of money.

Be honest- is this too grown out and unsightly? TIA.

But I like my nails being ‘noticeable ‘ 😉

Which is fine if you can afford the upkeep. Noticeable, impeccable nails are fine. Noticeable, bright nails with a 2 to 3mm regrowth pit are noticeable in a very bad way.

ObliviousCoalmine · 22/02/2026 22:40

People really do get snooty about nails don’t they, it’s baffling.

OP you’re fine to go 4 weeks if the nail tech is happy with it/your nail apex can take it, nobody is going to sit and judge your growth like they would be from this photo. Ignore people making out you’re some kind of nail heathen.

insightnumber9 · 22/02/2026 22:41

Gosh some judgy and ignorant comments on here!
I also have dipping powder on my nails - aka “SNS” (the brand name of presumably the original dipping powder). It’s an alternative to nail polish or gel polish which doesn’t involve a UV lamp but results in a tough, durable finish which never chips. They are not fake nails, they are my own nails which grow without breaking courtesy of the tough finish you get from dipping powder.
i usually go 3.5 to 4 weeks between visits. Yes the growth is noticeable after that but I couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks. It’s not reasons of cost, I can afford to go as often as I want, but life is busy and I find that length of time works for me.

You could just paint your nails at home for nearly free?

Not breaking news?

BubbleFree · 22/02/2026 22:52

For me they’d be unsightly but my nails grow fast, I don’t go more than 3 weeks as I hate seeing regrowth. If it’s a cost issue I’ve seen a few of the dip products that you can do at home.

ExcellentDaydreams · 22/02/2026 22:53

I don't think they look good and they are noticeable to other people, my friend's were at the same stage when I saw her earlier today and I'm about to take mine off now (after three weeks) because they look similar to how yours look in the picture. Then I usually go a few weeks bare / with a natural polish before having them done again to keep costs down.

insightnumber9 · 22/02/2026 22:55

Painting nails at home is nearly free, yes. However it takes time I don’t have to dry thoroughly and then chips within a few days. I would never go back to diy nail painting. Your nails look fine, honestly, op.

SPQRomanus · 22/02/2026 22:56

I think they look awful. When I see outgrown nails like that it slightly turns my stomach. I hate the look of gel nails anyway, never seen any which don't look too thick, but grown out ones are dreadful.

If you're going to have gel nails, acrylics, whatever, at least commit yourself to the upkeep and getting them done before growth is very visible. Otherwise paint your own with normal nail varnish and redo every few days, or just have bare nails.

At least you look like your hands are young. I'm in my early sixties and hate the look of women of my age's hands with bright or patterned manicures or long nails, it looks utterly classless.

I often have bare nails now, or just do a coat of Dior nail glow, or do a coat of Dior abricot base coat with a layer of topcoat, they give a barely there but groomed look.

That’s… a strong opinion…

Sarah24x · 23/02/2026 06:02

Could you use orange nail polish on the regrowth? I doubt people could see from a distance.

I can’t afford mine anymore too. Primark do some really good glue on ones which sometimes last me a week if I make sure to use my marigolds. Never damage my nails either.

BringonSpringnowplease · 23/02/2026 06:13

CKN · 22/02/2026 16:38

Ooh it’s outgrown.
Dont think stretching to four weeks is doing you any favours

It's doing a favour to her bank balance

DeftGoldHedgehog · 23/02/2026 06:19

Meh. Mine grow out like that after two weeks and I wait for three.

It looks like nice neat nails. If anyone notices and thinks badly, fuck them, who cares? I don't care about the opinions of pathetic people.

I only ever have neutral or French on fingers because I refuse to go any more frequently than 4 weekly.
I don’t think your nails look bad at all. You’ll be more likely to notice the growth. Others won’t be studying your nails.

This is my reasoning for only ever getting neutral or French too. Less noticeable. I only like bright colours on my toes to be fair anyway but I think they look fine OP, I wouldn’t look at them in a bad way if I saw you out and about!

GreaterCassowary · 24/02/2026 12:44

It looks fine to me. If it helps anyone, I do my own gel nails with the Manucurist gel system (Green Flash). I've never been good at doing nails, and normal polish chips within 12 hours, but this is great.

Wow, you sound deeply unpleasant. Although I’m sure your nails are lovely. 🥱

Let's face it - the only person looking at your nails is you. I don't mean that bitchily, just in honesty.

Not true at all.

Londontown12 · 24/02/2026 14:59

This is why I don't like these type of nails this does not look good or healthy !
Sorry I'm not being horrible just think they look like lumps of plastic !
I used to love getting nails done but it a habit and once u see them for what are are they don't look good !
I've just been to the salon and had a nail tidy so file buff and cuticles they looks so fresh and clean and then I added my own polish looks so much better in my eyes 👀
(This is only my opinion doesn't mean I'm correct so don't come at me anyone )

I agree 👍
I just have a nail tidy in salon and polish them myself with Dior or a nice subtle colour myself

Paraguay · 24/02/2026 15:07

I do every 3 weeks

Subtle colour 🥱

is this system easy to remove?

Very! I was really dubious about the easy remove claims but you just soak some cotton wool pads in their nail polish remover, clip it in place on your nails, then leave for 10 minutes. The nail polish just dissolves and comes off with the pads.
