Help me move away from leggings

Isadora2007 · 20/02/2026 09:22

Yes I still wear leggings. Not sporty cool ones, just leggings. Black. With a long jumper over my bum and brown or black boots depending on the jumper. It’s pretty much all I wear. I have peri meno belly and IBS so bloating is a real issue if I wear jeans or buttoned trousers.
In the summer I like wide leg linen type trousers and a vest top. But I don’t like wide leg jeans and don’t know what might be a colder weather alternative…
I am 5ft 8 and a size 14 ish but big of bosom (34gg)…
Help please?

How do you know you’re the same size?

The OP mentions her size in her first post.

I wear leggings and jeggings unashamedly. Ive got a mum tum, it digs in when I sit down even the jeans with stretch. I haven't worn jeans since I got pregnant many years ago. I'd like to, but I've accepted it doesn't work.

I literally live in leggings. IDGAF. I'm at the age where I dress for me and my comfort only. Changing fashion for the sake of changing it ("updating") is a capitalistic concept anyway and I don't care any more!

I can’t understand why the op asks how to move away from leggings, and people are suggesting leggings, or jeggings. She didn’t say I love leggings, recommend me more.

It's the usual thing on here though! They don't care so think everyone else shouldn't care either.

There are so many other trousers out there if you don't want to wear leggings you don't have to.

F&F at Tesco usually have a good selection of trousers, and a lot have an elasticated waist or part elasticated waist.

The other option is you could move towards skirts and dresses.

I find a slightly lower waist, (mid rise for example) digs in less where as high rise makes my belly look huge.

😆 Don’t worry!

Isadora2007 · 20/02/2026 20:56

Thank you guys for the recommendations. If I had bootcut leggings can I still just wear long tops? I guess my fear with wide style trousers and no waistband is what tops to wear- as my staple in summer are just block coloured vests… I’m so boring.

I have also tried to move away from my 'uniform' (in my case, cord jeans + t - shirt ) . Same height, similar body, albeit fatter. I've been trying to wear dresses in casual and work situations. Entry-level was shortish stretchy dresses which I wore with leggings. If I felt overly self-conscious I could hide under a big, baggy sweater. Gradually I got the confidence to wear longer, fancier dresses. Now I am constantly on the lookout for pleasing dresses, and really enjoy wearing them. I wear them with DMs, canvas shoes or sandals - comfort over elegance! I tend to wear dresses more in spring and summer, and I'm looking forward to wearing them again soon.

Isadora2007 · 20/02/2026 21:52

@Aparecium that sounds lovely. I always feel so overdressed even when other people would wear things like dresses without a
second thought. But I will keep persevering!

Absolutely! That's why I had to ease myself into it. I also started this when I started a new job, so nobody had any assumptions about how I dress. Sooo off-putting when people comment about how different you look today, when you already feel self-conscious.

have you looked at Next The Set? you could start with some basics from there, although if looking at tops and outfits, maybe take a look at getting new undies and a bra fit as well, as its like foundation for your make up
