Anyone gain weight with bovine collagen?

I used bovine for around 4 months - skin lovely, but I felt like I definitely bulked up body wise! It’s showed on the scale a few pounds but really I just felt heavier, clothes tighter etc. I’ve changed to marine collagen now and I don’t think I’m imagining it that I’m starting to feel back to normal.

Has anyone else experienced this?

no. I’m with ancient and brave and it’s only 18 calories a serving so would be bizarre to put on weight

Actually yes. Bovine collagen has been great for a knee problem I have and skin, but I’m a few pounds heavier for no reason I can fathom. Struggling to get it off too. Logically I don’t see how this could possibly be the case as it’s not very calorific but it feels as though it is.

Have you managed to find a tasteless marine collagen?

Gettingonabitnow · 18/02/2026 18:15

Thanks both. Yes I’m using Ancient and Brave marine and it’s completely tasteless, I’d recommend it so far.

I have used bovine one for more than five years. I have gained weight but I’m sure it is not the collagen or my diet behind it, just the bloody peri menopause making my metabolism more sluggish. I eat far far less than years ago and exercise more, yet I am putting weight on. They said that when you come to this point you start gaining a wider waist no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

Yes that could also be me with peri!

My bovine collagen is 35kcal a serving so unless you're eating it by the bag it's unlikely to be the culprit!

Unless you’re taking masses of it, it’s not the collagen, it’s everything else you’re consuming.

I'm on Healthspan marine collagen which is tasteless and no aftertaste.
