Outfit for jazz club

Does black go with denim? I’m going to a jazz club on sat nite and I want to look “cool” for a 56 year old slightly fat . Am a size 16 - I have to cover my arms and legs 🤣I can’t decide on jeans and a silk shirt I have a black one or a browny colour or jeans and tight top with a round neck and netting for the arms - see thru arms - plain black top. I’d prefer to wear a skirt but a long skirt can look frumpy if your not wearing a belly top or cami do u think?

Long skirts can look frumpy, yes. Especially if you have broad hips or butt (I definitely do…😅) and or aren‘t „polished“. I personally easily end up looking a bit cult-y… especially when I don’t have time to style my hair. Not a good look for me.

Denim does go with black and brown. Which colour suits you better? Which top is more flattering?

would you be wearing wide legged (or bootcut, and no, I‘m not claiming those to be fashionable) jeans/trousers? That might work well with a tight top.

edit: I hope you’ll have a fab time!

No one in the audience is ever going to look as cool as the people on stage at a jazz club, so it’s probably the wrong place to attempt it.

Why not aim for ‘pretty’ instead? A louche, easy dress and some fabulous pointy knee high boots?

Urghhhhh to the word frumpy. I like long (midi not maxi) skirts with either DMs or heeled boots. They just need a fairly fitted top with them.

Jeans and a silk shirt also sound fine. Not so sure about the top with net arms though.

Dress like you're playing jazz. So have an underlying sequence (like a good pair of denim jeans) and then improvise on top with something more flourishy and if it clashes harmonically, bring them together at the end with shoes that go with both.
