Help! Advice after hair colouring disaster

Last week I went from bleached blonde to a level 6 at the hairdresser. After one wash the colour faded really badly and went a khaki/greenish (see first pic) I went back to the salon and they corrected it, redoing it to a 5.86 a much deeper, warmer brunette (see 2nd pic) Now I’m so scared to wash it because I don’t want it to fade again or go weird colours. I’ve been told there are products like Colour Bomb, colour-depositing masks and special shampoos that help retain colour, but I’m totally confused by all the options and don’t know what to actually use.
Can anyone recommend shampooos or colour-depositing products that help keep dark brown tones rich. I asked ChatGPT and it’s total rubbish! I’m just overwhelmed by choice and have never done this before.

Did your hairdresser not warn you this would happen? When I went from blonde (which I'd been doing for years) to a lovely brunette with a hint of red/purple (I was young), she warned me that I'd need to come back within a week or two as it would fade awfully. And it did. But the next one stayed on much better and I did use a lot of conditioning and treatment produdcts to help my hair be less dry and brittle after all those years of bleaching!

Going several shades darker, I’d be pre-pigmenting the hair. Essentially putting back in the undertones in the hair that the bleach had stripped out. When it isn’t done, after a shampoo hair will go khaki green. Going to a level 6, an orange undertone would need to be used on the hair prior to colouring.

what colour house has been used as I am not familiar with a 5.86?

Thanks so much for the replies, he did put on an orangey pigment beforehand and he said it must not have worked. I did ask him about products when I went back and he told me to look at vitalitys products but I really don’t know what I’M doing (I know this is my total grey area) He said he needed to get some products into the salon for people to buy. I think I just need to be told what to buy

I don’t think it’s any products you’re using on your hair, I just think the correct pre-pig shade wasn’t used, or mixed properly, or left on long enough. Going forward, I’d recommend some toners, make sure you have a warm brunette as opposed to an ash/cool. Good luck.

Thank you @Changingnames2002 I appreciate that. I’ll look for some toners

Hi
If you were bleach blonde he should of put in yellow orange and reds a mix of the 3 plonking on an orange is not enough when u going down at least 5 levels !!
I'm a hairdresser I can deffo recommend wella colour shampoo it's in a red bottle and I use the redken bond conditioner in a light grey bottle make sure u use heat protection as well ( I'm a hairdresser) straighteners can affect colour as well so heat protection is a must !! ! Only other thing I could recommend is maybe getting a warm brunette depositing shampoo as well I think wella do this in a conditioner or mask rather than a shampoo hope this helps x

Try this. It’s a deep conditioning hair mask that contains colour pigments that will help keep your hair a rich cool brown and stop it going khaki.

Osmo super Cool no Orange, Deep Conditioning hair mask.

Thank you @Londontown12I will do that, it makes perfect sense! I feel so out of my depth in this and with you being a hair professional that’s the advice I need! I like my hairdresser but he is a bit intimidating (he’s lovely) but I don’t really know what questions to ask him. Mumsnet has always been great for support in the past so that why I am asking on here. Thank you for the product recommendations x
