Based in the North.
Hair is blonde already, no greys yet.
I have a long face… this style will be ok? Need low maintenance!

North East and my local hairdressers would be approx £170. I'm in a city though - Northern village I would expect less.

Blimey... I'm In the south, if its as cheap as this, I'd travel up!

I’m in the North and I was going to say a few hundred! I think you get what you pay for with colour. The OP’s current hair looks really nice, though.

PluckyChancer · 26/01/2026 17:36

As you don’t want to have 6 weekly maintenance appointments, balayage highlights will suit you best as you can leave it longer between appointments.

Don’t make a decision on which hairdresser to book in with, based on price alone as that’s no guarantee of competence. You want to walk out of the salon looking a million dollars. If they’re very cheap, there’s probably a good reason for that!!

Go in and ask for a consultation first. They should insist on a patch test before your actual appointment and if they don’t, walk away. Anyone willing to take that risk is no professional in my view!

Secondly, how do they make you feel during the consultation? Are they asking the right questions about maintenance etc. Some hairdressers can be over confident and under deliver on their promises.

In East Midlands - just had it done very similar. Paid £120

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 26/01/2026 18:29

Scotland too, and yes around £130 for highlights, toner, and cut.

pavillion1 · 26/01/2026 18:31

150

I'm in the south west. Colour, highlights toner cut costs around £280. That picture is Ai so make sure you talk to the stylist about what expectations and what you can realistically expect.

Is it AI? Blush
I must be getting old I thought it was real.

So essentially you are looking at cutting a fringe and a bob into your already wavy hair, perhaps a few more highlights. Looking at the model’s hair, she has some strands tied around others to hold it back. Would you be planning on asking the stylist how to do this yourself, or would you plan to use some kind of hair clip /band / scrunchie ?

LakeGeneva1 · 26/01/2026 22:12

Can't believe how people pay to do their hair!! Doesnt it all have to redone in 6 weeks? Extortionate!

Doggymummar · 26/01/2026 22:14

Edinburghdaze · 26/01/2026 15:50

I don’t know mow much I’d pay - £90? It looks nice though!

I'm in Brighton so close to £200 I would think. M6 hairdresser charges more than that bu5 I'm thinking average salon

EconomyClassRockstar · 27/01/2026 00:28

So you're going from the 2nd photo to the 1st? Because the first doesn't look low maintenance to me!

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/01/2026 06:56

Yeah the one with the strawberry is my current mop. It’s already blonde and wavy I just want it blonder and shorter and possibly a fringe. I wasn’t planning on doing the knot thing necessarily (I’m sure I can figure it out) it’s more the haircut I liked and the colour

OP posts:
dudsville · 27/01/2026 07:16

I don't know, but your own hair is very pretty. Is it styled in that pic or is that what it does naturally?

NerdyBird · 27/01/2026 07:26

Can’t comment on price, but I don’t think that looks low maintenance at all. You could ask the hairdresser for a low maintenance version.

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/01/2026 07:28

My hairdresser would be about £150 for this, in the west end of Glasgow.

Oddities1 · 27/01/2026 08:02

You say in your op you want low maintenance then say you want blonder, shorter and a fringe! All of these things are high maintenance. The shorter the hair the more styling it requires every day in my experience. The fringe - likewise. The colour - you need regular appointments.

Don't do it - get a trim and colour refresh

I'd pay around £180 for a full head of highlights, toner and cut.

notacooldad · 27/01/2026 08:05

Thats very my style. I live in the North West and I pay £70.
My hairdresser is fabulous
I agree its not a low maintenance style!

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/01/2026 08:08

I’ll ask for a low maintenance version 😆

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/01/2026 08:08

I can style a fringe I think, the rest will be fine with curly girl refresh

OP posts:
takingthepissoutofme · 27/01/2026 08:12

North east I would expect to pay £130-£155 upwards......which is why I no longer get mine done

rockstarshoes · 27/01/2026 08:13

Surely OP it would be easier to just look at your hairdressers website & price it up! Restyle, highlights toner and finish? Prices for hairdressers vary so much even within my town.
have a look on social media, instagram is good for local hairdressers, they usually have photos of some of their haircuts etc you can see if anyone has done anything similar.

FcukBreastCancer · 27/01/2026 08:18

Wales. Cut £60. Colour £90 +, toner £23.
Your colour looks nice to me already op.

66babe · 27/01/2026 08:38

My salon ( East Midlands) would be £90 for highlights, toner, cut and finish but there is another salon on same street where it starts at £150 - there you get a biscuit and a warm towel but I’ll stick to my hair dresser as I love him to bits .. such a good stylist and honest about what I want and can or can’t have.
I’d choose a recommendation over a price any day

maybethisyear · 27/01/2026 08:45

Last time I had a restyle and new highlights, blow dry etc it was £250. Birmingham

crumpetandcoffee · 27/01/2026 08:48

Can't believe these prices! I'm in the NW and get a full head of blonde highlights with toner, trim, olaplex and curly blow dry for £80. Lovely salon too. I think it would definitely be worth some of you getting a train haha.
