Cardigan type top for evening on a cruise

PersephoneParlormaid · 20/01/2026 20:50

I need a top to wear in the evening on a cruise, but I can’t wear wool. Something to wear over a dress if it’s chilly on deck. What do people wear?

Pashmina?

I bought a couple of cotton blend crochet type shrugs/boleroes . Not lace but prettier than just regular crochet , more floral knit. No buttons , short sleeves ,
Probably QVC.
They wash well and just cover my neck and shoulders a bit .
I have a pashmina but it gives me Clint Eastwood "FistFull of Dollars" vibes

Can you possibly elaborate? A dressy dress? Does it have to be a cardigan? What’s your style

i personally find cardigans quite frumpy could you not go with a blazer or a light dress coat?

Exactly, a cardi would be frumpy and I can’t wear wool. Something to wear on deck at night that goes with all of my dresses. I’ve never been on a cruise so no idea what other women wear

Monsoon have some pretty short cardigans, non-wool…or I would look on eBay/vinted…a wrap would work but could be a pain whilst eating and you will need something, the air conditioning can be brutal!

Tortephant · 23/01/2026 17:19

Jacket? Over shoulders rather it’s arms in.

PersephoneParlormaid · 23/01/2026 18:20

The friend I’m going with said we might sit on deck and watch a film, so I’d need something for that

I'd go with the pashmina type thing. So bloody cosy if it's chilly and they are not all made from wool either. No one will care what the heck you're wearing anyway. Amazon is your friend for ideas, if you are not the labels type. If you are, scroll on for more info from others!

I know it’s a cardigan but it’s pretty and 100%cotton

HermioneWeasley · 23/01/2026 18:28

DKNY Cozy

Wraps mostly, added bonus they pack well. I wasn’t cold myself but I run hot

Thanks for this, I’ve gone for one with a bit of sparkle. That’s one thing off my list!

Something like this, it’s a long soft scarf with sleeves, to keep shoulders and arms warm in the evening. You could knit one in cotton, or silk. The link will take you to the Etsy page with knitting pattern, it has a nice photo. There are loads of variations to be found.

They have blankets that you can borrow , DH and I watched Movies Under the Stars on deck after a day in Rome . "Bohemian Rhapsody" .
DH fell asleep . (No class , him)

I put on a cardigan and a blanket Grin

@greatbigpot I can't open your link, but I made something similar from a soft wide wrap. It's hard to explain but very easy to do, no sewing required either! I'll try and explain.

Place wrap down lengthways. Pin or tie the ends of the short sides together leaving an opening. That's it, you have an opening for your arms and a "sort of" wrappy cardigan. I'm sure there are youtube/insta clips out there showing this.

Watching a film on deck I’d wear my jeans and a sweatshirt. Which cruise line? That will denote what people wear in the evening. I generally wear black jeans/trousers and a nice top as if I’m going to a nice restaurant on land.
