Has anyone ever found the mythical ‘slim but not skinny’ jeans?

I’ve been on a search for these for months….narrow in the leg but not skinny.
So not clinging to legs, wrinkling at the knees etc but not loose/baggy either. Neat fitting.
Preferably not high waisted.
Minimal stretch (see ‘wrinkling at the knees’j.

I’ve tried New Look, M&S, Zara, Uniqlo, Mango.
I’ve tried sizing up and sizing down.
‘Straight leg’ or ‘Mom’ jeans are too baggy/loose. ‘Slim leg ‘ jeans are too skinny fit.
I tried the M&S Lily jeans after reading reviews on MN but they were…skinny. Just with a wider ankle. (As another MN poster had said). I sized up…still skinny (just loose on the waist and weirdly flappy at the ankle).

It’s a myth isn’t it?

Next did some slim mom jeans that fit this bill a couple of years ago.

You could try slim jeans or jeggings that are made for the more mature woman who likes a more classic look?

I find Brax quite good.

pottylolly · 20/01/2026 16:40

Levis are the best for me. I have massive thigh and their straight and 90s dad styles all look in proportion to the rest of my body. If you have slim legs you might want slim. If your calves are bigger than your thighs then barrel.

Ok a few options to try here. Agree I really need to try some on so Vinted won’t do unless I find a perfect pair in a shop then hunt Vinted after.

My biggest issue with trousers is a good fit at the hips and not too much length from waist to bottom of the zip. I’ve tried the smallest size in Fat face and it was just too big. My current straight leg (quite loose in the leg and need a belt) jeans are Mango and Zara - size xs. But the M&S Lily were too tight in 6 and too loose at the waist/hips in 8 so sizes are all over the place.

Will try Levi’s (though am not hopeful, they’ve been too big and long in the past) and will look at Uniqlo again. Might also look at Reiss, Whistles etc as they might be more tailored. Cigarette cut might be the one if not too high waisted,

Looked at Next online but their offering looks v similar to M&S - the straight looks too baggy and the slim looks a stretchy skinny.

Will report back as I can see from previous threads I’m not the only one looking!

Depends on your shape, OP, but my best pair of jeans when I was slimmer than now was a teenage boys' pair of slim-cut jeans, which I had taken in at the waist but fitted everywhere else.

ZookeeperSE · 20/01/2026 17:12

What is your budget? Because my DD has requisitioned all of my vintage Seven for all Mankind jeans and they are a perfect straight fit, low rise style. Fair enough she nabbed them because they don’t fit me anymore (and I can’t afford them now I’ve got things like a mortgage to pay 🫣😁).

JackieGoodman · 20/01/2026 17:23

Similar to @BarnacleBeasley mens slim jeans. I got fed up with womens jeans not fitting well. I'm not particularly wide hipped though and mens wouldn't suit if you are.

MsBubbles85 · 20/01/2026 17:29

I like abercrombie high waist vintage straight - they have also different lengths

VenusClapTrap · 20/01/2026 17:30

Dd (after having a huge hissy fit and rejecting all trousers I suggested, but refusing to shop herself 🙄) solved this problem with M&S teenage boy trousers.

Levi’s 314 or 312 are what you are looking for!

Definitely. Love my 314. Straight, but not too tight!

eddoo · 20/01/2026 17:41

If you’ve found Levi’s too long, there’s a way of hemming them at home and keeping the original hem. I did it by hand (not with a machine - I don’t really know how to use them!) and it didn’t take me long at all and I ended up with perfect looking jeans.

I have Marks and Spencer Lily jeans bought over a couple of different years and colours. All purportedly the same size. Some are definitely straight / slim rather than skinny jeans. None are the same size or even cut as another pair. It’s trial and error.

I prefer slim leg and mid to low rise rather than high rise too. That’s particularly challenging at the moment.

There are some White Company slimmer cut jeans that looked great shape wise when I was last in but haven’t tried them on yet.

TinselTurnip · 20/01/2026 18:07

Levi's shaping straight 314 jeans maybe?

imnottoofussed · 20/01/2026 18:30

I’ve previously found gap girlfriend jeans and also next relaxed skinny jeans were like this but I’ve not bought any for years so they may not have them now.

HelenHywater · 20/01/2026 19:49

Levis 712 or 714? 714 are looser I think.

HelenHywater · 20/01/2026 19:50

Also Gap 90s straight, although these might be more loose on you.

tobee · 20/01/2026 20:17

@Decisionsdecisions1 I realise I gave you the wrong jeans upthread. The ones I meant were Next slim mid rise stretch. As the name suggests they do have stretch but I've had mine for a while and they are still good fitting, not baggy at the knee.

I just got the perfect pair - for me

Im a tad over 5ft and whilst Ive a belly, I have no bum/hips or thighs , been wearing super skinny for years

Finally M&S had their kick flared jeggings in stock in my size in Petite

Not dead tight on the thighs ( I dont have any ) and a slight flare from the knees that just covers my shoes/boots 3/4 way So no wet hems :)

I also wear TU straight legged jeans. I thought perhaps a tad slouchy for me but Neice when she saw me thought very on trend and looked good

M&S
