Do beauticians reuse the wax on me that they have used on other random punters?

I'm a bit grossed out my beautician casually mentionned today that she of course gets rid of the bits with loads of hair and blood on them each night before she heats the wax up really hot to kill bugs. Does this mean she is reusing the rest she can't see the bugs on and then leaving it to gently warm all day?

mine doesn't

she uses wax out of a tube and chucks the cloth in a bin!

Piffle · 12/06/2008 21:32

avoid and report
mine rinses off wax sterilises her cotton strips properly new roller of wax for every client

greenelizabeth · 12/06/2008 21:35

No because the wax sticks to the cloth which they then throw out!

I mentioned to my waxer that that was not great for the environment, to throw out all that cloth.

blousy · 12/06/2008 21:35

No way!! I can't believe any beautician would do that. Where I go, warm wax with the fabric strips go straight in the bin and the hot wax used for your brazilian - well, it's just inconceivable that they would use that again!!

greenelizabeth · 12/06/2008 21:36

OP, I commend her inclination to recycle, but surely she is sterilising the cloth?!

Do you think she just omitted to mention that part to you?

If not, you are right, totally YUCK.

Blondilocks · 13/06/2008 20:36

Mine uses a new spatula thing for the hot wax after each part is applied so that nothing that's touched the skin goes back into the pot of wax. The wax used on me is just thrown away after it's taken off.

I did worry about this before I went to the salon, but speaking to my beautician they all seem to be very clued up in health & safety etc.

hi i am a beauty therapist and that is just wrong!!!! report her and report business to council [if she is doing it then she must be copying an example] unless she works for herself. she may say that she is killing bugs but as soon as she lowers the temp they are multiplying -find another therapist is my advice as another poster said nothing that has toched your skin shoul touch the wax!!!

meglet · 15/06/2008 13:45

eeewww. don't go there anymore. Thats hideous.

I used to go to a fab lady who had a sterile waxing system, it came out of a tube and was only used for one person. I never got those little spots afterwards as she wasn't transferring someone elses bugs to my skin.

I just went to a salon where I don't usually frequent as it was last minute. I asked for a regular bikini wax. I noticed that the beautician was using the same stick for the whole wax treatment. When I went to pay, I said it to the lady at the desk. She said that was normal as it wasn't an intimate wax! Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if breaching salon rules/practices, where do I report them?

Many years ago ( in the early 70s ) I worked at a top beauty salon in central London ,in those days we applied the warm wax and ripped it off with no fabric strips . One of my jobs was to re-warm the wax and sieve out the hairs !
The wax was then used the next day and on and on and on !
