What's your causal earrings vs your fancy earrings ?
For me, my are usually causal earrings are simple silver studs.

My somewhat fancy earrings are usually diamond studs. For like work or parent-teacher stuff.

My super fancy earrings are usually pearl earrings. For like when I go to weddings.

My hot mama fancy earrings are usually silver hoop earrings. For like dance-centered parties. I haven't been to such a place in a while.

Mine don’t work like that - any day can be a fancy earring day! Mostly gold ish tones, or bronze, often a bit dull/muted finish, green stones or glass, black or diamond. Some studs, some very dangly, some hoops (2-3cm chunky ish). Quite a lot of nature types (leaves, shells, etc). Love earrings!

Pretty.

Given the nature of my job, I shouldn't wear big hoops nor dangling earrings to work.

I have silver sleeper hoops that I keep in constantly. Going out earrings are normally more dangly ones. Ultimate out out ones are Swarovski mesh ones.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/01/2026 21:04

Most days are special earring days for me, lol. I love a dangly earring. Studs for days when I am at home, walking the dogs etc, but dangly ones the rest of the time. Mostly silver or white gold, occasionally rose gold depending on my outfit. I have quite a few ear piercings and like to stack them artfully so they work together.

You could get some small discrete diamond hoops. Just big enough to loop your earlobes.

Casual earrings - anything goes the sillier the better, hanging cats, witches on broomsticks, fish, ducks, multicoloured stuff etc etc
serious/formal - gold drops, a set of pearls, small silver hoops and some cour de lion drops.

Would you attend a dance class wearing dangling earrings ?

Maybe I'm overly cautious of my earrings choices as a dance teacher.

Ah that puts a different spin on it @MomWithChinHairs , personally no, I wouldn’t and don’t wear any earrings doing any form of exercise not even at a sedate yoga class. (I do gym, yoga, swimming, running, spin class, rowing, dance and netball)

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/01/2026 21:17

No, I don’t generally wear dangly earrings to the gym or a dance class @MomWithChinHairs. If I forgot to remove them then ok, but generally, no.

As a teen, my older sister got a hoop earring ripped out of one of her ears while playing soccer.

@MomWithChinHairs yes that is my number one fear. Don’t even want to think about it. For netball even studs have to be taped over. My second worry would be losing them eg when out running or changing at the pool. Hence not wearing them for sport/exercise at all.

I'm surprised to find someone even more cautious than me on this. I teach dance to only women. Many of them would wear hoop earrings or dangling earrings. Internally, it makes me nervous. But luckily nothing has ever happened.

@MomWithChinHairs I don’t know where my cautiousness originates. Probably a combination of those 1970s government safety videos and my mother forever telling me be careful/ remove them for swimming/ horse riding/ school P E lessons.
I love earrings and always have a pair in the car / my handbag as I feel ‘naked’ without them although I don’t wear any other jewellery. Still it’s a hard (personal) nope for wearing them for sports/exercise.

B0D · 12/01/2026 21:42

Gold plated huggies for every day including swimming and yoga. Never take them out.

I have some hand made gold danglies with green stones for going out but I’m scared of losing them. I’m allergic to most metal’s though

ZenNudist · 12/01/2026 21:51

I wear a mix of earrings whuch double for casual and dressy but keep some more for "best". I definitely have super special earrings that hardly ever get worn like black diamond hoops or my matching swarovski set. I recently bought a Monica vinada set I will wear for everyday and best. I have tiny hoops for daily wear and big hoops for dressier wear. The necklace matches both.

I get what you mean by feeling "naked" without earrings. There is a chance that my own husband has never seen me without earrings. The only way I can think of as him possibly seeing me without earrings is if he's staring at me while I take out one pair to put in a different pair.

Very wise! I did up my “studs” earrings game when the kids were little - didn’t want any dangly earring grabbing options!

Earrings are the best. Like the sound of your hot mama fancy dancing party hoops!

Mintynotes · 13/01/2026 06:29

I don't have my ears pierced, but my sister's super into earrings. She's got this pair of brown diamond studs — like 1 carat each, I think? — and they're honestly so pretty, totally work for both everyday and fancy stuff.

Empress13 · 13/01/2026 06:36

I love a nice earring and like perfumes which I stupidly used to keep for ‘best’ I have now changed my
mindset. if you don’t wear them now when will you wear them? I don’t go out that much to fancy places to save for “best” as I’ve gotten older so wear what I want when I want. My regular earrings for work if I had to choose are a pair of dangly pearls from H&M. I do tend to only wear my big sparkly dangly ones when I do go out out lol

isitmytime · 13/01/2026 06:55

I usually wear the same earrings casual or dressy. A pair of platinum diamond studs. I don’t keep jewellery for good
I very occasionally swap them out for silver Huggies but that’s not very often at all and usually only for a day when I come across them tidying

CarlaLemarchant · 13/01/2026 07:00

I’m not into dangly earrings and my ears are super sensitive so most of my earrings are gold/rose gold/white gold but they’re all pretty simple so can wear any occasion. I’ve got a pair of diamond earrings and have been known to wear them for work if I fancy.

bumphousebump · 14/01/2026 07:03

I rarely wear them day to day….but go all out when out. I like long dangly earrings with bright gemstones.

Gazelda · 14/01/2026 07:09

I’ve got a huge array of earrings, including studs, hoops dangles. All silver or gold. I love buying handmade from Etsy.

but I had a pair of diamond studs for my 10th wedding anniversary a couple of years ago and for some reason I’ve never taken them out. They’re comfortable, elegant and go with any outfit and occasion.

I really must dig out some of my more fun earrings and change things up a bit.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 14/01/2026 08:09

I wear diamond studs every day. They are really comfy and I sleep in them. I just take them off to clean once in a while. They were an extravagant gift and £4k! Given I’ve been wearing them daily for 12 years then cost per wear is pennies rather thsn pounds. The only other jewellery I wear is a stainless steel Brietling watch. I have some fancy pearl earrings for best, rarely worn though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/01/2026 09:04

I never change mine- they’re little silver hoops with tiny diamonds from Monica Vinader. I’m allergic to anything except sterling silver and don’t like gold.
