School Reunion - what to wear?

It is the 50th anniversary of leaving shchool this year, so a reunion has been organised for the beginning of May. I assume it includes some kind of lunch as it is from 12:00 to 15:30 or thereabouts.
Obviously weather is a consideration, it is in the south west, but I am trying to think of something suitable to wear. Currently thinking trouser suit or coordinating top and trousers with blazer.
I did toy eith the idea of creating my old school uniform as I still have my hat, tie and house badge, but that is possibly just a little bit silly.
It won't be warm enough for a smart dress and I only have 2 skirts, neither of which is appropriate.
any ideas?

I attended a school reunion (40th anniversary) last year. Women were all smart casual in a variety of different clothes including dresses and jeans. It would have been odd to see anyone recreating the uniform though 😁

No to the uniform idea

No to the uniform or to a blazer.

I'd go for some nice wide leg trousers, a silk blouse and a nice jacket, maybe something with a bit of structure but a fluid material. Aim for polished but comfortable and be yourself

Where is it? It doesn’t sound like a formal event as it’s over lunch and only for a few hours, so I would probably go on the more casual side. Jeans and a jumper, or jeans, shirt and jumper. Something like this.

We have an informal reunion every couple of years. (We left in 1974.) Typically most people wear what I'd call their best casual clothes with a few going smarter. Last time (in winter) I wore my favourite wide leg cords and a 1950s jacket, which put me at the more dressed up end which I'm quite comfortable with. If this is the first reunion and also a big anniversary, you might find it a bit smarter.

As for the uniform idea, personally I wouldn't because, although it might be a fun way of making an entrance, I wouldn't want to be stuck wearing it all afternoon. However people often bring along items from our old uniform, photos etc and everyone enjoys looking at them.

I wouldn't assume it includes any food at all unless you've been asked to pay for lunch!
We have school reunions about twice a decade and provide tea/coffee & biscuits, that's it.

In terms of what to wear, whatever you like!
There will always be a few people there who will make you feel under-dressed 😂
I tend to wear jeans and a t-shirt/top (but that's because that's what I always wear....)

That's a good point re lunch. At my reunion it was the space in a pub hired. Everyone bought their own drinks. There was a late lunch afterwards for those of us who stayed.

Floisme · 12/01/2026 13:19

I imagine it'll become more clear if lunch is involved once you know the venue and if they start talking about menu choices. We've always paid for our own food but there's no external organiser. The choice of venue will also probably give you a clue about any dress code e.g. restaurant, upstairs room at a pub etc.

It is at school and last time, for the 350th anniversary of the founding of the school, there was lunch, with wine! Tickets are being sold.
I am 67, I haven't worn jeans since I was 50 and we were not allowed to wear them in the 6th form either, although we were allowed to wear mufti.
I was only joking about recreating the uniform 😉
I suppose the best thing to do is to consult with others attending, nearer the time.
Many thanks for the input and ideas.
I was thinking of something like this top and trousers with a navy jacket or just similar trousers with a cropped navy jacket I have. Probably the smarter end of the scale. In 2008 I wore a navy trouser suit and white t-shirt.
