Do you think it would be possible to turn it into a backpack by having a leather shop attach some links?
I've been offered the above bag, it's gorgeous but I know I definitely need a backpack type.
If you have it what do you think? Too floppy? Too heavy?

I'm not sure that would work at all! It's the wrong shape for a backpack.

I also don’t think it would work, you need a ‘portrait’ bag not a landscape one. And I’m not sure how you could secure the straps without either it not being secure enough at the front so it flops forwards (as in, away from you), or the straps getting in the way from the opening.

I’d just get a new backpack, possibly with the proceeds of selling the Mulberry.

I agree with the other posters that I can’t see it working. It’s also a very heavy!
