I just started a thread on what to wear to my husband’s 60th party. Is this too young? It’ll be longer on me as I’m short

I think it's a pretty dress. As you are short I think it would be fine. Great price!

squashyhat · 08/01/2026 18:29

Please don't use this outdated misogynistic expression. If you like it wear it.

Apologies. Absolutely did not mean to offend.
as far as “if you like it wear it goes”.. exactly what is the point of this topic if not to get opinions?

Try it on and see how it feels/fits.

Personally, the photos make it look dowdy and poorly fitted on all the models. Unless you are straight up/down, I'd imagine the skirting on the hips will make them look massive.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 18:39

Definitely not straight up and down. Small around the hips though.. bigger boobs so I thought the elastic top would work well.
Last thing I want is frumpy though. On the other thread I mentioned that I have lost 3 stone in the past year and trying to rediscover my style without looking ridiculous

Congrats on the weight loss. As I said up thread, see what it looks like on. I always buy a few things at once because pics online can be very deceptive. I also have big boobs so appreciate the elasticated top might work. Maybe its the colour, but it just feels a bit sombre for a 60th celebration. See what its like though.

Iwantsandybeachesandgoodfood · 08/01/2026 18:44

I think it’s a lovely dress and if you’re not tall then it won’t be particularly short. It’s a great price so I’d buy it and try it on.

FoxFeatures · 08/01/2026 18:45

It’s a cute dress. Wear it and have fun.

This . . .

Its a lovely dress for all ages.

Enjoy the party.

Britpopbaby · 08/01/2026 18:51

It’s a classic LBD in lovely velvet. Enjoy.

joeninetey · 08/01/2026 18:56

Not at all. Rather comely in fact. Except her legs are too skinny.

Glitchymn1 · 08/01/2026 19:05

I think it looks nice, I don’t mind the phrase 😆I know what you mean!

Thank you.. I honestly didn’t think about it at all. I’m nearly 60. My mother used to say this all the time so I just grew up listening to it and didn’t think deeply on it. I won’t use it again
I don’t want to look like I’m wearing something a teenager would wear though so the sentiment somewhat stands 🤯

I really don’t like it. To me it reminds me of a shorter version of the witchy Halloween dress up dresses my DD used to wear when she was little 🫣

Purlant · 08/01/2026 19:10

I think it looks a bit dated to be honest. But, if you like it wear it, definitely doesn’t look to young - I’d say the opposite!

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:12

Those that don’t like it… and I am genuinely taking those views on board.. any ideas for something to wear to a 60th for a short woman with big boobs 😂

I don’t think it is stylish, mainly because of the elasticated ruching on the bodice which extends to the shoulders. The model is flat chested and very slim. I think it would look a bit like a gathered frock if you have a bust and hips - and the sleeves don’t help. I find that most Nobody’s Child dresses look a bit cutesy.

Sorry but I’d leave it and buy something else.

skippy67 · 08/01/2026 19:27

I'm probably near your age and wouldn't wear it. Not because it's "young", but because it's not very nice...

Gowlett · 08/01/2026 19:28

I don’t like it. The right dress is out there!

ArwenUndomniel · 08/01/2026 19:29

Personally, I think it's a bit "neither one thing nor the other" in that length, and you say it'll come up longer on you. Knee length is tricky - I'd want to go shorter so it's falling a few inches above the knee. I knew what you meant re "mutton" but given my advice is potentially even more muttony it's clear I set no store by it!

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:32

This is where I think my eye is off. As I said I recently lost weight. My clothes don’t fit me anymore and I also think I would be a bit more adventurous now. (Please don’t come at me for that; I’m being honest about my own insecurities. I truly would not judge what anyone else would do).
I think that dress is too formal for what I’m looking for. The length would not be great on me either. I think it would look very staid on me
Maybe I’m wrong though 😳

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:33

A couple of inches above the knee is definitely better on me than knee length or below the knee
