I just started a thread on what to wear to my husband’s 60th party. Is this too young? It’ll be longer on me as I’m short

I think it's very pretty. Worth a try on.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:37

I do like this. My budget is up to £150 so there should be something good. I just need help finding it

Sorry op I think it's dowdy. Hope you find a nice dress and have a lovely time.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 08/01/2026 19:42

It’s a bit Riverdance.

ArwenUndomniel · 08/01/2026 19:43

Do you want sleeves or sleeveless? Would a v-neck style work? Any colours that particularly suit you or don't? There'll be loads of options but difficult to narrow it down without a bit more detail.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:43

That Hobbs one is lovely. I’m always nervous about tops of dresses with no “give”. I think I need to get more confident about that

It’s cute but I think you could find better! Xx

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 19:46

so sleeveless is not ideal due to weight loss… lots of excess skin.
v neck could work.
my hair is grey but my eyebrows and eyes are still black and I have brown eyes so I think I can take strong colours

I really don’t like it. To me it reminds me of a shorter version of the witchy Halloween dress up dresses my DD used to wear when she was little 🫣

It reminds me of a medieval fancy dress costume (the combo of square neck and velvet and balloon sleeves). I like a velvet dress but this isn't very nice.

LetticeProtheroe · 08/01/2026 19:47

I like it and I'd wear it. I'm nearly 50 and dress fairly alternative. But it does look a lot like a dress I got from tiktok shop for £15 so probably a bit cheap.

Please don't use this outdated misogynistic expression. If you like it wear it.

Exactly, hate that saying. We can wear wtf we want.

user38 · 08/01/2026 19:51

I think it's a bit girly in style. If thats your vibe then fine but I don't think it's very elegant.

ArwenUndomniel · 08/01/2026 19:53

I've just seen your other thread and the boots you're planning to wear, so I wonder if something like this would be your vibe.

Not at all age wise. Body type and general styling probably more important in whether it will suit you

I’ve already apologised twice, I get the message.

I don't like the ruching and the waist seems to be at an awkward level .

ArwenUndomniel · 08/01/2026 20:02

Disturbia has a lot of things like that, but I personally have a very flat chest so I would probably choose things that might not work with boobs! Have a look, anyway. Everything is within budget and they have a size guide that I find very helpful.

You asked that question but then all the ones you post are a bit young I think for a 60 year old. No matter how great a shape a 60 year old is in there are imo limits where it veers towards that phrase that should not be spoken.

Yes it is!

i’m going to stick my neck out and say it’s a young woman’s dress - and by young I mean about 20.

I’ve just bought this one. I totally hear you about the age thing. I was not being disingenuous when I asked. I think though because I’m 5 inches shorter than the model and will wear it with tights and biker boots it will look very different on me. We’ll see.
