I just started a thread on what to wear to my husband’s 60th party. Is this too young? It’ll be longer on me as I’m short

Sorry I should have read all. I hope you enjoy wearing it.

HercsHeart · 08/01/2026 20:26

As someone who is more mutton than lamb and has a bust and loose/crepey skin, I recommend New Look.
The Nobody's Child is a 'no' - square neckline and shirring will make my boobs look like a big monoboob.

The dress you've bought looks nice, @Twodogsonthecouch .

MrsPositivity1 · 08/01/2026 20:31

I love the one you picked @Twodogsonthecouch and also the JL green velvet one.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 20:33

Thanks @HercsHeart I’m a bit nervous about it. Big boobs are hard to get around! It may end up being returned. I’ll keep looking and trying on. Trying to figure out my style and get my mojo back

I think it looks a bit dated to be honest. But, if you like it wear it, definitely doesn’t look to young - I’d say the opposite!

What would you suggest that doesn't look dated?

Those that don’t like it… and I am genuinely taking those views on board.. any ideas for something to wear to a 60th for a short woman with big boobs 😂

That is a really tough one. I'm endlessly sympathetic having endured the same. There's no reason for you to listen to me, an internet random, but choose your best colour from head to toe, fitted to the bits of your body you like. Comfortable, pretty shoes. Possibly, shape underwear.

It’s a bit Riverdance.

Don't worry about your age, order what you think you like and try them on at home. Return anything you don't look amazing in.
Boobs always look better if you wear a well-fitting bra.

Fashion rules don't work for everybody.
I'm approaching 60 and don't look at age labels (well I do because I buy myself children's clothes sometimes)
V-necks make my boobs look bigger and not in a good way.

(I'm nearly 5'4")

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 21:01

Thanks again. Yes. I think v necks just emphasise my boobs, but that might be because I’m self conscious

lifeonmars100 · 08/01/2026 21:02

use it as a starting point, what drew you to it. the fabric, the colour, the shape? Send for it, try it on and go from there. What matters it that you like it and feel good in it. I think it is a nice dress. a try on with various accessories should help you decide

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 08/01/2026 19:39

It's not obviously too young but it's just not particularly elegant.

How about something like this? Similar vibe but smarter and more stylish.

Yes this dress is very nice.

It’s a bit Riverdance.

I couldn't quite place this look in my mind, this is EXACTLY it, I'm sorry op. But it's fucking horrible on the model, it won't look good on 99% of folks.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 21:03

on a complete tangent; I’m going to be in London next weekend. Anyone any recommendations for where to go for a good bra in central London

You asked that question but then all the ones you post are a bit young I think for a 60 year old. No matter how great a shape a 60 year old is in there are imo limits where it veers towards that phrase that should not be spoken.

What specifically about the dresses makes them not suitable for 60 plus women though? Genuine Q. Kylie Minogue is only 3 years away from 60 but according to you by then despite her still looking fabulous with an amazing figure, none of these dresses would look good on her which anyone with eyes can see is blatantly untrue lol

Zov · 08/01/2026 21:13

It really depends on the person, and not the age IMO.

I would suit it (at nearly 60,) but my friend who is 10 years younger wouldn't.

If you feel it suits you @Twodogsonthecouch then wear it. Smile

TheAmusedQuail · 08/01/2026 21:16

I'm a similar age. I would wear short (as in above the knee) if it looked a bit tunic-y. I wouldn't wear anything that looked mini dress like. I look my age and I just don't think it would be flattering.

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/01/2026 21:22

If you like Disturbia style, you might like Joe Browns too. Here a couple in the sale. I would order quite a few dresses (especially if they're inexpensive) and a couple of wildcards. That's what I did for DD's prom dress and she went for the wildcard, which looked gorgeous on her - perfect fit and colour. It's so hard to tell looking at a picture.

Similar to dress you ordered but I prefer this colouring for a party

Why not try one of the free personal shopper offers. John Lewis, Phase Eight and Hobbs do them. It’s a great way of finding your new style.

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 18:39

Definitely not straight up and down. Small around the hips though.. bigger boobs so I thought the elastic top would work well.
Last thing I want is frumpy though. On the other thread I mentioned that I have lost 3 stone in the past year and trying to rediscover my style without looking ridiculous

I think the top will make your chest look matronly... this would only work well on a small chest imo x

What sort of a do is it?

Twodogsonthecouch · 08/01/2026 22:02

It’s a 60th birthday for my husband @mullers1977. It’s in a venue in our city. I hadn’t heard of it, my daughter suggested it. We went to see it yesterday. It’s very nice. Casual and relaxed but very nice menu with cocktails and craft beer vibes. Lots of fairy lights and exposed stone 😂. Should be good fun. He’s very into the arts and music so will be along those lines

Are there lots of people going? does it have to be a dress? I have large boobs and my happiest outfit at the moment is trousers/ jeans Blazer and a nice top - I go lace but it could be anything - a pair of brilliant boots or shoes. I think its timeless and ageless. I don't think the disturbia dresses are going to make you comfortable if you are already worried about your outfit. Totally get the phrase MDAL by the way - yes we can wear anything we want but its got to make us feel good and not MDAL x https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12608257/Louise-Redknapp-48-sizzles-sheer-lace-Pride-Britain-Awards.html. (not this top though)

Louise Redknapp looks sensational at the Pride Of Britain Awards

The singer, 48, looked incredible as she teased a hint of lingerie beneath a sheer lace top as she hit the red carpet.

What size hips are you? When is it? I’d get a lovely trouser suit either in a colour (burgundy Green Navy) and wear a black cami top or a black suit with a coloured or sparkly top - will take years off of you and get your hair done that day x
